Mate has got a new ebike and wants to ride long Mynd at the weekend.
Anyone Mynd regulars on here care to tell me what it's like up there. Is it boggy or really muddy.
This is what we are looking to do .....

It'll be fine, it'll be muddy but not crazy boggy muddy.
He he. Despite the fact that I've ridden Minton batch exactly twenty times this year, I have no idea what current conditions are.
Lovely descent though, have fun
I predict Carding Mill Valley will be very busy with high probability of "where's you bell!" And Minton batch will be like riding down a stream while following a deaf rambler who refuses to acknowledge your existence.
That's my experience anyhoo.
Yeah minton batch will be a river but a fun one.
Aah, not been there for ages. Am I he only person who prefers the descent next to Minton Batch which ends in a huge grassy fast berm and possible crash into solid 5 bar gate? Not sure that's the official title, but you probably know the one I mean.
Not a local or regular rider there, but I did ride a lot of The Mynd last Saturday. The Carding Mill carpark wasn't that full at all and there was a bloke at the ticket shed taking money (£5 all day) and handing out a pass to display in the window. The cafe was open as were the toilets but no where near as busy as I've seen it on better, warmer and drier days.
Riding wise, it was soggy and draggy on the grass when climbing and a bit slippy slidey descending, there was a little snow still on the tops (prob gone by now though) but not enough to have you off pushing. Minton was muddy AF at the top, then after about 100m turned into a stream/river. The other stuff we rode were FP's 😉 They were pretty much the same as Minton. Bit muddy, bit soggy, wet, etc..

Think that's the official BW that descends to the campsite. last time I rode it, there was a big gully cut into it that switched sides and wound its way down. Now THAT was interesting at speed. Not hit the gate yet though
Its fairly weather proof as others have said. I generally park at Blazin Bikes at Marshbrook. Its free - generally spend a few quid in the shop. They have toilets and a shower + bike wash I think. Its a much better climb up compared to Carding Mill (which is pretty steep and generally rammed with walkers) IMO - may be a moot point if you are on an ebike.
Going up Cardingmill Valley is ok, it's hard work, especially the first section, but the walkers are generally encouraging. I cleaned it once, around 10 years ago.
I've ridden the Mynd perhaps 100 times, I've never gone down at point 4 or up point 5, sounds like a really bad way to lose height and a pretty horrible way to reclaim it.
The Batch Valley is a nice place to finish (point 12).
Minton Batch is fantastic, but it does suffer in the winter, especially the top.
