Does anyone use long football socks to protect against the summer nettles?

I think they might be a bit too loose a weave to stop those fine needles when pulled up, but bundled up around the ankles they will give protection.

Only one way to find out!

Do you remember the episode of Dirty Sanchez where they rolled around naked in nettles!!!

I take a hearty dose of MTFU before riding my bike which seems to ward off the ravages of stingers.

It's far too hot to go riding in football socks...

I quite often wear them in cold weather. They get very heavy on a wet day though!

Flip flops, yeah? You can also wear them to weddings these day.

Not a hearty enough dose of man up!!

You should be wearing old 'skool' wool football socks with your flip flops, just because you are a MAN, shirley! Pulled up in the heat just because, not for stinger protection. You should be pulling them up by hand as you go!!

Shred your shins with brambles first. The build-up of scar tissue lessens the sting of nettles.

I've started wearing some rugby socks that I have whilst riding. If you get decent ones then they stay up when riding and stop nettle stings and small cuts from pedal pins. I'm not sure really cheap ones would really work.

It gets a bit warm, but you can always push them down for a bit to cool down. I do look a bit daft with them on, but it's not really possible to look cool on a bike so that doesn't bother me.

Loads of nettles around here at the mo. I'm finding they tingle for a day or so and then itch like mad!

I suppose with socks you can just pull them up when required.
