Afternoon all, so a bunch of us, named 'Wiggo's Warriors' are tackling the London to Brighton this weekend, any tips for me?

Should you 'Vas up' beforehand or just go with the flow?

eat and drink in small amounts, repeat often.

Don't 'vas up' (?!) if you've ridden similar distances and been comfortable before.

enjoy it for what ever it is. there are too many people to enjoy the ride in the way you do on any other sportive/ event.

stop for a pint on turners hill and watch several thousand cyclists pour by!

Just enjoy the event, it's not a good ride per se, there are too many retards around, unless you leave at 5:30am, and what's the point in doing the official event then!? Just leave London on any day at 5:30 and it'll be dead!

Don't linger and don't mess up the streets, I have plenty to do at home this weekend !

And I live in Brighton ...

You'll be fine, it's not that far.

If you're a keen cyclist, be prepared to go really slowly! Unless you're in the first bunch to go you will get held up on any incline. Don't treat it as a serious ride (you'll be disappointed), more of a social gathering on wheels. It's a good day out with mates.

Also be careful overtaking, there are a lot of inexperienced cyclists who won't look over their right shoulder before pulling out.

We have been given a start time of 8.30, can you start earlier than that or have to stick to it? I commute 10ish miles most days, so I think i'll be ok.

Ahhhh...you're doing the official road ride. Thought you meant Off road..my bad.

It's a bun fight, everyone from girls in dresses with shopping bikes to wannabes in lycra, most people do no prep and therefor can't do the hills, you end up pushing a lot, simply because you can't ride amongst all the walkers.

Go and have a laugh, and a pint or two. 🙂

Then do the proper London to Brighton Off Road with the BHF in September.

Yeah I expect there will be a few stops at 'drinking stations' along the way.

Or the night version next month, which is much more interesting and has less people.

As a charidee money raising event I'm sure the day ride is great but as a cycle ride, it's chock full of people on bikes, as opposed to cyclists.

It goes through my town and forks the roads up all day.

start time of 8.30

Start as early as possible to avoid the hoards & traffic. We used to go for a 6.00am start and were in Brighton in time for a pub lunch. If somebody is picking you up get them to arrive in Brighton early as well as the traffic queues back miles in the afternoon.

Turn up 24 hours too early/late and enjoy a congestion free route!

Alternatively just try and enjoy it, it can get pretty frustrating.
