You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Hi there,
Hopefully this event will running in September.... ?
Has anyone done this event ?
Just wondering what people did for travel to and from the event ( I understand that south west trains don’t like to help and don’t allow bikes on trains those days)
Is it better to travel and leave car at the start - or vice versa?
Any other tips apart from a lot of training?
Cheers
I did this last year and I made a call to drive to Brighton, stay in a cheap hotel, leave car there and book a ticket on the BHF coach / lorry to take you up to the start earlyish around 5am but the best way I found.
It's a good ride, 73 miles 4000' and a long flat section mid ride.
Go for it its a ball.
Best wishes,
James
Done it twice now, not overly hard for the distance but enjoyable on a good day.
Both times I booked a hotel at the start. Dropped off the bike and my kit the day before (early check-in helped) then drove to Brighton, parked the car somewhere safe (once in the multi-story, once at a friend's friend's house) then got the train back to the hotel at the start. Worked for me as I like to just get up, have breakfast then ride.
For the ride itself, make sure you're comfortable with doing a long stint of old railway after you have a few miles in the legs. It caught me out the first time hence the second one to get a better time. The whole flat section is deceptively slightly uphill (as in a tiny gradient but enough to make a difference) so it feels like a constant headwind. The second time I just dropped to a lower gear and spun it out, much easier and left me feeling good for the final climb before dropping down the Brighton harbour.
Enjoy, it's a pleasant ride and good atmosphere.
