Staying in Ballater in a couple of weeks.
i fancy doing the loch muick circuit from that side but understand there is some pushing from Bachnagairn back up to the drop down to the loch.
how bad is this? I have a light e bike which the teenage beast could push for me and I will push his bike but wondering if others have taken an e bike on this route.
There's about 20 minutes of a carry in total on the northbound climb towards the horse shelter at Bachnagairn. It'd be a very tough push, some parts definitely need to be carried rather than pushed, there's just too much steep rock and big steps. But it is only 20 minutes, you'll survive. Added to which is that recent improvements to the track up the glen before that climb, up to the memorial bridge mean that you arrive in better shape than in the past.
If you like it tech, make sure you choose to descend via Coire Chash, to the west end of Loch Muick rather than the doubletrack Streak of Lightning, further east along the ridge.
Are you talking about going over from Muick into Clova and back?
There is a bit of clambering just before the bridge at the top of Clova then it’s pretty steep and steppy for the first 2/3rds of the way to the Shepherds huts.

You can still do a circuit of the Loch with the good descent without going into Clova. Just keep going past the Capel Mount climb and go up the zig zag climb and on to the huts, then head down to the Loch.
From the map to the track where one would turn right to moulzie. Thanks both.
If the weather improves, the Green Mile descent is worth tagging on to the end of the ride. Gets very wet at times though so I’d check in with the guys at Cycle Highlands first.
I did this circuit in the summer with a bad back which meant I couldn't carry the bike. It's certainly harder pushing the bike up the Bachnagairn climb but it is possible.
