Hi folks, up on business to loch carron village and was wondering if anyone knew a nice wee bit of single track climb and descent doable in 3hours? I have some time to spare on the way up or the way back. Anyone know the track or have a gps route for the Steve Peat video, which from memory started there?
Cheers
Alan
Climb up from Coulags and take a right at Bealach na lice.. You then have roughly 7km of descent down to Achnashellach. Should be just about doable in 3 hours. There's a bit of hike a bike though, just before Bnl and up Coire Grannda. Quite easy to navigate, there's a small cairn just after the Bnl which blocks a path on the left so just take the right there. Apart from that it's straightforward. Can also recommend the Rockvilla although it's a while since we were there.
Aye just as well it gets better as you get further down.
Looks amazing, ideal route..... Packing bike gear now! Should I buy an OS map or wing it?
Get a map, you'll want to go back.
Check your email, Monster101 - have just emailed you some OS mapping that'll cover you for that loop.
But, yeah, you'll want to get one anyway!
Well guys that was superb! I was up seeing clients in Loch Carron, so left their house at 6.40 as the weather forecast was for drier period first thing! How wrong that was. Started at Coulags and then headed up the track, the rain over the last few days and overnight had really effected the path, sorry river..... Ever seen so much water! The Shimano Goretex winter boots kept my feet dry until coire loch fionnach. The loch had burst its banks onto the path. Managed the climb up to the first fork on Bealach na lice in 2hours due to me blowing out ma arse and a puncture. The next Bealach was a bit hikey bikey especially the almost vertical bit with the bike on the shoulder. When I got to to the top, then went round, damn another climb, but once at the top..........mist and more mist. 4 hours at this point howling gale and driving rain
The descent though, fantastic, easily worth the hickey bikey. Nice, loose, techy, fantastic bedrock, great switchbacks, sustained pitches. Amazeballs! 40mins on the way down
Easily as good and as technical as some of the runs at Lake Garda when I was on holiday
Shit ride into a massive headwing along the road back to Coulags though.
I would thoroughly recoomend this route, I'll be back.......
Thanks to House Husband for the map
Did you pop into the Strath for a pint?
