My brother in law lives is vancouver and has been on't phone tonight asking what bike to get, my brief is a 4-5 inch bouncer(probs 4)xc bikecosting in the region of 1500-2000 sterling(2600-3500 CAD). He's completly useless with bike maintenance but won't be taken for a ride(excuse the pun).
Can anybody point me in the right direction for a decent bike store that'll look after him, set it up properly and have a decent range of bikes that isn't really niche?

He lives just up the hill from kits beach and would probably refuse to travel any great distance even to get a better deal, so closer the better to his home.

There's Bicycle Sports Pacific just over Burrard Bridge and he could look at the Trek Fuel EX, Cannondale Rize / Rush plus maybe one or two others. There's also one or two shops along 4th so again not too far from Kits. Or he could leave Kits (it's not that hard!) and head up to North Van where there is Steed, John Henry, Cove, another BSP, On Top, Obsession, Different etc...

Dizzy Cycles is in Kits, near corner of 4th and Burrard. Specialized & Kona dealer, good stock and the people I've spoken to in there previously have been friendly & helpful.

There's also Dunbar Cycles (Giant, Norco dealers) but I haven't been there myself.

Unless he's a racer-type, he'll probably appreciate getting something with 5"+ for BC riding.

I live in Kits and the only bike shop that hasn;t rape dme is The Bike Gallery.
Suepr cool staff and they only sell the good stuff.
They tend to cater to the richer Point Grey crowd, but I'm a student and have been totally satisfied.
Only other opption is to head to North Vancouver.
John Henry's was also super nice.

If he's too lazy to travel across town is he really going to ride his bike? 😛
