Looking to do a weekend in April. Loads of stuff on tripadvisor etc but looking for recommendations - 3 x twins. Pub/BB preferred. Not bunkhouses. Definitely not camping.

Any thoughts?

We stayed at Gales a few weeks ago. £58 per night for 2. Cold breakfast included, hot was chargeable. Cant complain, the only downside, which didnt bother me, is the car park is tiny.On street parking isnt a problem after 6pm. We asked around as to where to eat in the town, 3 people said 'Gales', not knowing we were staying there. The food was good, though not cheap.

Abbey Grange might be ideal for what I think you're looking for, in a beautiful setting towards the Horseshoe. They have many permutations of rooms that might suit you. A bit more shabby than chic, but a proper atmosphere in the evenings, with the locals coming in for a pint/food. And it has it's own brewery in the grounds.

Never, ever stay at the Royal.

"Never, ever stay at the Royal"

We were told that too. Apparently the rooms are rubbish with paper thin walls, but the food is good.
