Family has booked a holiday for us all in Llandielo in a couple of weeks. I know this is a hotspot! I'll probably get the chance for 2, maybe 3 rides. What do you recommend?
Cheers in advance.
Cwmyrhaedr and Brechfa are both close by if it is trail centre riding you are after.
Natural XC routes too. I'm local and usually have Weds and Fridays off if you want a bit of local guiding.
Unfortunately we're landing Friday evening and leaving Monday morning. If you're riding that weekend a tour would be lovely though, cheers!
How far away are the two places you've said?
They are approx 30 mins from Llandeilo. I may be available depending on day, time etc. Drop me a message if you want.
Looking at the Black Mountain area to the East of Llandeilo, there's a few bridleways that run loosely north/ south up and over the hills. Are any of those worth riding? I've been looking at a ride in that area for a while but I'm dubious about some of the bridleways and whether they actually exist on the ground!
@bens, sorry for coming back so late. The general rule of thumb is that it will be a horrid bogfest and/or difficult to follow and/ or really disjointed. However if you are prepared for some proper old school XC riding there are some great bits of riding.
Anything west of the A4069, is definately a plodding best only done in the driest of droughts type riding. Take a gps unit too.
From Cwmllynfell northwards is again, erm, wet. Best done up the old tramway in extremely cold winter when the bogs freeze over. I've never had any access issues at all if I've strayed from the RoW. The drop down from Cefn Carn Fadog through Cwm Sadde Fechantowards Twynllannan is really enjoyable.
Good luck with the Gwys Fach paths. I'm not even certain that they properly exist.
Heading north from Cwmgiedd (nr. Ystradgynlais) is yet another open grassy endless climb but well worth it because it gives access to the stunning descent to Dan yr Ogof or alernatively to Llanddeusant via Carreg yr Ogof. This is possibly a better ride N-S, Llanddeusant- Carreg-yr Ogof- Twrch river crossing- Waun Fignen Felen- Dan yr Ogof. Possibly my favorite South Wales descent.
Give me a shout if you want to know more.
A.
