Is Worlds End rideable in this weather / time of year?

Got some free time this Friday and looking for somewhere new to ride with a few mates.

No, not really. Getting in to it will be boggy and whilst the trail itself is reasonably robust moisture in the ground on a narrow trail in a sensitive area means it's not worth the increased erosion risk.

In this weather I'd be more inclined to head south from Llan drop down one of the trails into the ceriog valley then back over and do allt yr badi back.

I walked over the tops, Ruabon Mountain and Eglwyseg Mt a fortnight ago. And then back into Llangollen via the trail under the cliffs. The tops were a proper bogfest although the path was mostly OK. But as above, not really the right time of year to be riding that. Wayfarer Route instead?

This post is rather timely as I'm going to be at Llandgela in a couple of weeks and was going to post the same thing.

What would anyone suggest as a good alternative, perhaps incorporating the red trail as a starting point?

One Planet Adventure the trails, drain quite well so they will be fine.

The Red is a nice trail, depending on what you are after its a little boring, I would say try and include some of the black bits as well

I was more looking for something in addition to the OP red and black which I'm quite familiar with.

There is lots of surrounding countryside of which I know very little so wanted to find something a bit more natural perhaps incorporating the red trail as a starting point.

Will be staying just outside of Llangollen for reference.

I'd also like to know this.
It's a weird area because it seems ideal mountain bike/cx country.
But apart from Llandegla and the weird One Giant Leap place, it's hard to know where to go.
A lot of the routes that link from Llandegla seem pretty unrideable outside of summer.
And it's a brutal area for climbs, so hard to just tootle around exploring.

You can park up at the Ponderosa cafe at the top of the horseshoe pass and cycle into Degla from there. Head up to the mast's keep right at mast's down the motocross track until you hit the road ,turn left and ride until you see the sleepers track on left and head down that until you hit Degla and continue around trail. Cafe is well over half way so ideal for some food .  Also save a couple of quid parking charge. Return journey is out where you came in and turn right and follow fence line back past masts and downhill all the way back to Ponderosa.

Sorted ,thank me later

Flat Tyres would be my go to for ride planning;

https://flattyres-mtb.co.uk/

Drop Colin a line, super helpful with advice.

We've stayed within 30 minutes of Llangollen and done some cracking rides in the area.

@ simono5 Now that you've posted it I remember saving a link for Flat Tyres earlier in the year with every intention of going back and reading up.....

Will check it out tonight if everything settles down at work.

@blastit don't supposed you have a .gpx you could ping over please?

This YouTube channel has some rides/loops in the area that I've not seen elsewhere.
No GPX files but shows the kind of thing that's around.

I used to live in Mold. Loads of rides in the Clwydian range, Moel Famau and Cilcain have some nice bits of single-track that you can link together. The Flat Tyres site above is a good place to start.

When planning riding in the area, few routes we considered which may be helpful for you (or not LOL).  I think they're all public;

MBR Magazine Killer Loop (not rode this myself) - https://www.strava.com/routes/2845070642537254196

STW classis ride (thought this was a superb ride and would recommend) - https://www.strava.com/routes/2845070808275161396

Cadair Berwyn Loop (from Flat Tyres, super enjoyable, super tough day in the saddle) - https://www.strava.com/routes/3031322095335978076

Another couple from Flat Tyres which we haven't yet done;

The Beast of Llangollen - https://www.strava.com/routes/3031299224601076544

Already mentioned Wayfarer - https://www.strava.com/routes/2989206266985331406

Couple of rides from One Planet;

Worlds End (this is the one we did from One Planet and finished with the OP Blue Route rather than slogging the red/blacks.  Was ace) - https://www.strava.com/routes/3176591901886760522

Llandegla Moors (haven't done this but it's out round the mast) - https://www.strava.com/routes/2845070989183919412

All very handy. We've just agreed to head to the area at Easter. My wife loves the area too and is always keen to visit her brother on Chirk Marina

Got here last night and just getting myself ready to head off; would the masts and cairns around Cyrn-y-Brain still be rideable as an adjunct from One Planet?  It looks like double track in some photos but thinking of the potential for swampy menace with the ongoing rain?

Are there any GPX's available near Cyrn-y-Brain

Did the Killer Loop late October 2022 - fair old day out TBH, and you aren't near population for much of the time so make sure you are self sufficient. Tonnes of climbing though. It was boggy in places and that's not after this amount of rain.

But apart from Llandegla and the weird One Giant Leap place, it’s hard to know where to go.

There are some great trails kind-of next to OGL.

Have a peek on Trailforks.

How does it work with the dotted line routes - marked as "trail is hidden" in map legend?
Are they marked that way because of access/rights issues?

Dunno, maybe trails that are closed with windfall? Access issues usually just see them get removed.

Can't see any of those in the bit I was talking about though - the ones which spur off the Croes yr Esgob/ Enduro Traverse blue climb.

There's one 'hidden trail' on there that's my favourite route in the area.
It goes across the moors by Vivod Mountain and heads back down into Llangollen.
It's rideable all year round, a kind of a red route. Only know about it because a relative lives close to it.

Seems so ridiculously difficult to find out about these kinds of things.

We did a good degla route from llangollen via worlds end

my fave bit was the very alpine (& cheeky) section where we hit the panorama walk around Creigiau Eglwyseg

You don't really need a gpx for cyrn-y-brain . Just go round the back of masts and follow your nose and  head down hill on the main path till u hit the road . Turn left and ride a few hundred meters and look out for the sleepers on left to take u back to Degla. The Sleepers can be a little of a challenge as u ride along the length of two sleepers side by side and rotten in places. On the plus side the heather/ bog is soft.

Go explore
