Off to Llandegla this weekend for 2 days.

Only been there the once and was with a group of riders so not really paying attention to what i was missing etc... So, apart from the main trail is there anything else we need to look out for ?

How long ago was it when you last went? The black trail was extended a couple of years ago and is good fun.

Couple of months mate. Although we were only there for a few hours as one of the lads broke his finger so we quit after 1 circuit.

not much, there is a fork 2/3 of the way round splitting the old and new trail. There was a cool video of Neil Donoghue smashing it. This however is me smashing the wall off one of the jumps.

Few blind lips etc but all fairly fine...

New Black stuff has made the place significantly better. Used to find it not worth the trip, its now a lot better.

Two days might be a bit overkill for the trail centre TBH. You could lap it twice in an afternoon.

Maybe look into natural rides in the Berwyns nearby. I'm keen to explore the area myself.

Oh hell missed the 2 day bit. We used to have a cafe stop before and after just to make an afternoon of it...

Hopton if your coming from or heading south or any of the Shire is worth a look (eastridge/long mynd/bringewood) though may be muddy
Not that far to Penmachno ....

The girls might get creeped out in the cafe if you hang round that long.

that black looks pretty much all rollable - is it? or does the video give the wrong impression?

nope the "Pink" loop is all rollable 🙂 The step at the end of the wood is a little big but nothing that lifting a little wont sort or going more than 5mph

its all rollable and the black stuff makes it a lot more fun

for 2 days youd be pushed unless you want a day sessioning the pump track and freeride run

It is all rollable 🙂
I keep meaning to go on a skills course so I can get more out of it!
But still good for a morning out. I'd recommend Coed y Brenin for a 2-day trip rather than Llandegla.

I'm thinking of going soon but have only got the rigid single speed built up at the moment, will I die?

It's been three or four years since I've been, and only for one day so.... I take it that there's been extensions to the black bits- iirc, the black stuff back then was a few shortish alternates to the red?
So where does the 'freeride' stuff that opened a couple of years ago fit in- is this part of the new, longer, black loop I can see on the trail map, or something separate?

Hi Weeksy,

Me and a few mates are doing the same this weekend, staying in Bala, Saturday going to Llandegla then Sunday at Penmachno. We've already been to CyB and ByC many times so want to try something different. We may see you up there. We' ll be on a yeti, a stumpy and an orange 5....

The map on the website is wrong - this one: http://www.coedllandegla.com/download.php?id=2

There is a correct and up to date one on MBWales here: http://mbwales.com/media/viewfile.aspx?filepath=1_20111110105052_e_@@_llandegla_2011_v5_low_res.pdf&filetype=4

The Freeride stuff and pump track are separate little bits off the main trail near the car park. I had a play on the pump track in the pouring rain, mid-week, in early January and it was fun enough, probably wouldn't entertain me for more than 20minutes though. The Free ride area you could session quite a lot if you are into that sort of thing, and there are quite a few variations across the different runs meaning it is worth going round again and having another go at the whole red run, to try the alternatives. The blue is also good fun when you are knackered at the end of the day - I could see it being a god day out, but not two.

Sounds good mate, we'll be on a Zesty and an orange Spearfish... give us a holler if you see us 🙂

BTW, the 2 days are not full days, we're not leaving Berks until 7am on Sat morning, then riding from 11am till dark on the Sat and from early Sunday until about 2pm.

Few puddles there last week so wet feet.

Go fast through them and your ok. Well hopefully.

Black/red/blue can be done in 5 hrs at a good pace.

Want to make a larger ride then cut off 3 miles in an go over the moors to the Horseshoe Pass. Follow the path upto a style the to a mast to get there. Have a brew at the Pondarosa then back through worlds end. You then rejoin at the 3 mile part.

Nice 25 mile ride but half is road.

Want to make a larger ride then cut off 3 miles in an go over the moors to ..........

......... turn left at the big cross roads kinda at the top of the first climb - you can see an info board next to a styal in the distance - , ride up to the fence line along the roughly surfaced fire road, turn tight and carry on up (fence on your left) and the end of that climb, cross the styal, after say 10yds turn right and climb up the moor, past the first set of masts and when you se a pile of rocks on your right, turn left and descend one of the best bits of single track in Wales (I think so anyway), get to the bottom, cross the stream, climb out, descend again, avoid the rather large ruts, climb to road, turn left, climb hill, keep an eye out for 'Offas Dyke' Path on left - it has sleepers laid end to end & 2 wide - ride / climb them and carry on back to the original styal with the info board.

Then head back to the trail and finish it. This adds about 4mins at this time of year 8)

Its alright but not enough for 2 days imo, one was more than enough. Black is all rollable and dont go too fast cos its so easy to over shoot the jumps - not really sure why they didnt make them bigger. Would suggest Nant yr Arian if that's not too much of a drive for day 2.
