Likely to be in Llanberis one evening per week from late Jan onwards. Can bring one bike, either MTB or road, and do a 2-3hr loop. I'd like to mix it up and alternate each week. It'll obviously be in the dark/wet/cold initially.
How sketchy are the roads at night time - are there routes to avoid? Would be riding with lights that are probably too bright, so if there's lots of traffic then my usual tactic of covering the "seeing" light and leaving the "be seen" on show when there's oncoming traffic would get faffy.
MTB benchmark ride would probably be Snowdon via Llanberis path - fairly dull, but definitely doable within 3hrs and pretty low risk in terms of coming a cropper. More involved version would be up Llanberis and down Rangers/Tele, but that takes a wee bit longer so wouldn't be doing it every week. Any other similar rides to consider in the area that are 3hrs total trip, assuming a start in Llanberis?
Roads not sketchy at all, really nice and quiet at night. A 2-3 hr road ride: Llanberis > Pen Y Pass > Capel Curig > Bethesda > Myndd Llandegai > Llanberis.
