Staying near Little Langdale next week and i'll be taking the bike for some super early morning riding before the rest of the family is up. So i'll be on the trails for 6.30am and done for 9am.
So i'm going to head off piste a little bit, but mainly want to be ridding more than carrying. i've done:
- Lingmoor fell accessed from Elterwater quarry back into Dale End
- Tarn Hows - Steep stepped path next to the waterfalls to Glen Mary Bridge/Yew tree farm car park
- Tilberthwaite Gill paths
What else can i loop into the more normal Hodge Close/Elterwater loops
Weatherlam for the win followed by Coppermines descent 3 hour ride
Cheers Rich but with a certain amount of faffage thinking more 2hour rides so more steep stuff linking the valley rather than up high.
I don't know what you know.
Good bits in that area IMHO
Ride up to High Close on the road then down Loughrigg Terrace
The descent of Iron Keld to Skelwith Bridge
Ampthill - cheers I know all the normal bridleways fine in the area including some of the recent trail sanitisation. But it's an area I've only done a little off piste as generally ridden further south or up high to the north.
This is about nice short rides with plenty of tech

I might be wrong, but I think he means going across Hole Rake from Tilberthwaite rather than the summit of Weatherlam, then down onto the Coppermines track. It's just a bit further on than the Tilberthwaite Gill descent you mentioned.
TBH, you've probably mapped out your own - up the track on the opposite side of Tilberthwaite Gill, down TG, then across to Tarn Hows.
There is plenty of handy stuff on and around Loughrigg Fell if you check Strava.
Gotcha! That looks doable and I'd of thought less than 3 hours? As you've done the height gain at the top of tilberthwaite gill, which is rideable ish
From the top of Wrynose pass, hike South up to the ridge (summit Swirl How if you've got the time) then turn around and head down Wetside Edge into Greenburn, should work from Little Langdale in your time frame.
If you do Tilberthwaite Gill, it's best ridden up on the North side, and descended on the South side 😉

Wryonse on the road, Red tarn, then either quick carry up Blisco and descend back to Great Langdale or straight down Brown How to GL.
Or
Hodge Close, Holme Fell and the Usdale gap path down to Yewtree tarn is a brilliant bit of tech.
Noting this for future ref
was going to suggest that last one down to yewtree tarn lowey mentions, good fun descent and gets interesting in places when its wet.
i assumed when rich mentiones weatherlam he did mean going to the summit as its a cracking descent as it drops you out just before the start of the coppermines descent to finish on, but a fair bit more than the 2 hours you want.
a good route could be tilberthwaite, over to the coppermines descent, follow the path from coniston then up towards hodge close, up holme fell and down to yewtree tarn
Many thanks for the help so far - keep it coming

Is Holme Fell are push, carry or rideable before the descent?
Also noting for future ref . . . although sadly, in my case, it's so I'll know which bits to avoid 🙁
Is Holme Fell are push, carry or rideable before the descent
bit boggy in places but generally all rideable from Hodge Close.

Also, if you fancy it... the Blisco descent

I got called "selfish" by another bike rider for riding cheeky stuff in this area. The trail lowey shows further up isn't too bad, quite techy, bit boggy in places on climb up. Not sure i've tried the Blisco one mind.

Part of life's rich tapestry :). The National Park has obliterated the best of the 'legit' descents locally, so it's not surprising that riders will increasingly look for something a bit more interesting.
As long as you're considerate and careful around walkers, and it's a hardpack/rock surface that can take it, I'm not sure what the problem is.
lowey, is it easy to tie that blisco descent into a decent ride?
.
Some tricky wee stream crossings on the way up to the shoulder of Weatherlamb
Rich dab
lowey, is it easy to tie that blisco descent into a decent ride?
Lots of options mate. I did it from Skelwith, up Wrynose, red tarn, then back over the full traverse of Lingmoor from Side Pike.
You could tie it in with a big traverse from Coniston, Walna, Dow Crag, Great Carrs, Wet Side Edge to Wrynose, red tarn, Blisco then back to Coniston via Tilberthwaite.
Not sure I'd do Blisco again to be honest. It was above my tech level although the pitchwork down the last bit was great fun. Your lot would probably love it.
cheers, sounds like its worth a look at.
i assume from your pic that its the path that comes out on the road to great langdale so then you just go up the road a bit and then can go up to side pike and onto lingmoor. was going to do the full lingmoor ealier this year but didn't, normally just go up from elterwater quarry.
.
Lowey, we need to get a ride in mate, been too long since I rode the lakes.
