I've got a random long weekend available at the end of May and fancied a couple of days up in Torridon.
However, there's no accommodation available anywhere. Nothing in Torridon, or even on the other side of the hills by Lochcarron.

So, what would you suggest for 2 or 3 days riding that's like Torridon, but not Torridon?

Nothing at the torridon inn , youth hostel or the b&b's in torridon . You could always camp , there is a good campsite there . Failing that there is probably nothing quite like torridon but plenty of good riding around .

Torridon inn is full, as are all the B&B's I've tried. I'm guessing there'll be plenty of folk out driving the NC500 and filling up the beds.

I would camp or bothy, but my wife's coming (and riding) too and she likes a few home comforts.

And no to the Torridon campsite... it's just a boggy field (I've stayed there)

Is there no availability in Shieldaig or Kinlochewe?

2nd that. It's convenient and cheap but not very nice as a campsite.

The NC500 has made things mental up there, much busier roads and some accommodation booked up a year in advance.

How close do you need to be? There's loads of accommodation in Gairloch if you don't mind the drive plus you then have other riding options. The Shieldaig Lodge Hotel on the Badachro road is one of my favourites.

Previous owner sold up it Closed for refurb a few years back and reopened for a different clientele.

I stayed in there on pretty much it's last weekend in its former rustic chic glory.

Twas an awesome place though.

If your willing to drive to torridon - and depending on what aspect of torridon it was you wanted. I like the Isle of Arran for a weekend it's not torridon -it doesn't pretend to be but you can have alot of fun. The main centers can be crowded but you don't have to go far to be in your own company.

2 years ago I stayed there. I was pleased with it. Honesty bar in the hotel, public bar next door. rooms very nice, food in the bar good.

Maybe we are talking about two differnt places? IIRC there are two sheildaigs not far from each other. ~This is the hotel I stayed in

TJ, I was in the Tigh an Eilean in Shieldaig a couple of weeks ago - nice hotel in a great setting.
Doesn't seem to be anything available even looking as far as Gairloch... cheers anyway Scotroutes and Terry.

And I don't own a camper (yet).

Might just end up staying closer to home and doing some of the longer Cairngorm routes I've been meaning to do.

Beinn fhadda in morvich, or a couple of days riding around kinlochleven, binniein mor looks right guid.

Some awesome riding around Angus glens too, jocks road, kilbo path, loch muick, capel mounth or the five munros around lochnagar.

As YGH says, lakes anaw. I'd stay riding the NW fells around coledale, 4 passes, brilliant biking, some cheeky, all awesome and quiet by lakes standards.
