Im looking for a pair of lightweight MTB shorts. The kind of ones you just forget about. Dont want lots of pockets and faff, just lightweight and straightforward. Any recommendations?

Morvelo RAD might fit the bill - light, no frills, not too baggy

Yeah tld skyline are like you describe.

I have some dakine pacer shorts which are even more so, but no idea if they still make them.

I’ve got some Mavic shorts (xa pro I think) which are super light and quite well (slim) fitted for a baggy short. Thought they might be too light to last, but they’ve been great.

TLD Skyline as above.

Endura MTR Baggy Short II - almost as if they're not there when worn over tights, nice slim fit.

Not quite as lightweight, but still lightweight:

Madison Trail shorts - loads of pockets but you don't notice them, and the helpful zip puller things on the zips are easily removed.

Fox Ranger - feel pretty durable, probably only one pocket IIRC, baggy.

I also have a couple of pairs of mavics. The more 'mtb' pair is quite nice in terms of being light without being flimsy. I'm also just getting used to a pair of their 'gravel' baggies, which as far as I'm concerned looked a lot like good 'bramble/ground resistant while still slim fitting enough not to catch on the saddle on a cross bike' shorts. So far I like them and I think they're going to get worn a lot this summer.

Skylines or nukeproof blacklines are nice too.

You can't go wrong with these

I bought a pair last year and soon after bought another pair. I think they are discontinuing them so you may not get your size but at £22 it's a no brainer.

DHB Lightweight Stretch MTB Shorts probably fit the bill nicely

or even the Trail baggy short

Endura singletrack shorts fit the bill, slim fitting - just avoid bank cards in the magnetic pockets! Morvelo RAD are great as well - I have a couple of pairs and they are light, stretchy and reasonably weatherproof. 3 pockets but all zips.

If you're after something properly cheap, these fit the bill ...

I picked up a pair in the autumn and really like the fit, nice and light, pretty slim, very comfy riding. The ar*e is starting to get a bit shiny so not sure how long they'll last, although I wear them pretty much every day cycle commuting as well as 'fun' rides.

Morvelo Element shorts were going cheap on CRC if they still have them. Good fit, lightweight and minimal pockets.

I have Madison Flux and Endura MTR ones. Both very light, stretchy and comfy. I think the Madison ones are a bit better.

Endura or Mavic Range I have both and certainly lightweight compared to some I have tried.

Ride in SE Asia so look for light weight kit were possible for summer riding and so far the best I've used at Specialized Enduro shorts, this is compared with the Madison, Enduro and SweetProtectiin shorts I also have.
Very lite, nice short length, a single zipped pocket for the essentials and with simple Velcro waist adjustment.
