I have an idea up my sleeve for replacing the Sutra. The bike would be used for commuting, light touring and Audax. I like the BB7s the Sutra runs.

So.... I'm thinking a Mavic Open Sport rim (takes a 32mm tyre) but what about the hubs? Hope Pro2 would be an obvious choice, but I think I'd find the noise a bit invasive on a road bike. What other 32 or 36 hole lightweight disk hubs (preferably in silver) should figure in my thinking?

Any other rim choices I should think about - or even a complete wheel from somewhere?

I thought they did a ProIII w/disk mount? They don't sound bad if you keep pedalling 😉

If you're happy with C&C, DT swiss are v nice.

Plus, you need Open Pros mate.

Mavic reckon that Open Pros are only good for a 28mm tyre. I fancy having a bit of room for something wider. There's about 50g per rim difference.

I ran XT hubs on open pros, with a 35mm tyre on the 3 Peaks CX - and nothing nasty befell me. I'm guessing you need 130mm rear though?

They're exactly the same width, I've put them side by side. I guess it must be some internal profile thing then.

Some nice disk spec lightish 29er rims about now, if 28's are not comfy enough for the duties you have in mind.

American classic hubs? I hear they're better on the sealing front these days.

boxelder - the frame I'm looking at has a 132.5mm rear to accommodate either hub width, so something like XT wouldn't be out of the question. Interesting feedback on tyre width too. Mibbe I'm worrying unduly.

Could always get hold of a hope XC hub, quieter than the pro2's?

I bought a pair of these for my touring/commuting/winter training bike:

I run 28mm tyres on them.
