With 104 BCD? What's lighter than XTR? Anything out there that's not a fortune? I reckon I can sort myself out with some XTRs on eBay for about £60 ish if I take my time, just wondering if there's anything else out there?
Anything carbon? Maybe not the price but plenty lighter
I don't know about more modern stuff, but there was only 50g (on my scales) between XTR (960) and XT (760), so it pays to investigate rather than assuming - especially real weights as opposed to manufacturers.
50 grams is 50 grams.....
£60 for xtr? That's a bargain. Keep in mind some of the older ones had odd bcd and needed specific (expensive) rings
Anything carbon? Maybe not the price but plenty lighter
Definitely not. Some carbon stuff for sure. But like stems carbon cranks often aren't lighter.
For £60 you'll never beat XTR, and they're fantastic cranks. Do you want single, double or triple? Is £60 the budget, or just what you reckon you can get XTRs for?
M970 are hard to beat, just make sure they come with the fitting tools if you're buying on eBay.
I've some M960's to sell, I'd take £60
Triple, quite a new granny ring
I've got a set of aerozine x1 cranks. The chain ring attaches to the crank by 3 bolts so you need to run an aerozine Chainring. The adaptors mean you can run them at 170 or 175 (172.5 if you buy a different one)
Mine weighs 555g with chain ring so lighter than xtr.
I'm not using it at the moment as it's got a new 34t Chainring and it was a bit tough. I'm running an xt with 32t.
If I had the money I'd buy some Raceface next carbon cranks.

50 grams is 50 grams.....
Then a chunky stw warrior swings a leg over and pedals away, cancelling out any weight saved.
thats another cake at the trail centre that can be eaten though
oh and speak for your self on the chunky 😉
I've got some XTRs for sale, can equip them with a Hope 32t Narrow/Wide or a 32t Oval from Absoluteblack.
In brilliant condition, with a newish XTR BB I could do the full set for £150
The aerozine x1 uses the same spiderless system as the sram, so you can use none aerozine rings. It's a very light crank
Rotor? XTR is probably your best bet though.
Cheers all, not quite ready to buy yet. Making a list for my upgrades. Looks like XTR though.
Unless you get a set of Next SLs there isn't really much point buying anything other than XTR. Light, reasonably cheap, last forever.
The SRAM X01/XX1 carbon cranks are fairly light, plus you can take the spider off them. Don't know if they're lighter that XTR though.
FWIW when/if I change cranks on my xc bike I'll probably be getting some of the rotor inpower cranks.
XTR M970 Arms Only (inc 4 arm spider) - 514g
Absolute Black 104mm BCD 32t Ring - 33g
4x Aluminium Chainring Bolts - 8g
SRAM XX1 GXP Arms only (No Spider) - 463g
XX1 4 Arm Spider + Bolts + Ring - 91g
XX1 DM 32t Ring - 63g
Absolute Black 32t GXP Ring - 52g
RaceFace Next SL inc 32t DM Ring - 446g
Aye, 600g for Rotor 3D+ with QX1 ring and bolts, but it does have a 30mm axle if that floats your boat at all!
My SRAM carbon cranks were fractionally lighter than my M970s, but that was offset by them being ****ing useless SRAM and having the BB wear out the first time rain was forecast.
M970 is a fantastic balance of price and performance tbh, very hard to beat for standard 24mm cranks. I'd love to get Next SLs for everything but that's never going to happen.
bump, just seen these
