Hi All,

Long story short, Me and a mate ended up doing Jacob's Ladder descent in near darkness the other day... Not the first time something like this has happened either!

Can anyone recommend any good quality, strong Lights for heavy trails like this please?

Cheers
GC

I have been using these:

Seem to be very good quality and an excellent light. Not used any others for comparison though

Quality you say sir..

How about the Luminator, chinese manufactured but top quality QC/support and their Combo deal is not to be sniffed at.

Or a step up to Gloworm quality product, in a tiny package with a good length warranty.

Then there the like of Four4th or Lumicycle and many many others.

Cheaper chinese clones are available that has the same light output but doesn't have the "quality" sir might expect.. 😉

I would risk this cheap and cheerful one from Torchy, because he has a good reputation and has moaned insensately about the quality of chinese batteries (usually the bug bear of cheaper chinese units), so his "should" be good (I have no actual experience of the unit to be fair)

Very happy with my hope r4, but avoid early gen ones.

Get any of the cheap Crees on ebay in the 20-30 quid range and throw them away when they break, which will be quite a while, I've had mine over a year and they are still great.
Why spend £200+ in the hope it will last longer when battery and led technology is progressing so fast that pretty soon the new cheap ones are better than the old expensive ones?

Quality and power, great lens choices from different spread angles or spots, well built, durable and will last, quality driver boards with motion & temperature control, custom options, great customer service & warranty, and friendly guys to chat with to discuss what you need and optimal bike and helmet mounting...

I can vouch for Torchy's stuff. Good prices, great service and very bright.

I agree with the Cree, I got one of the 3x ones the other day for £15 for commuting to work which is pretty much all unlit roads. Heard you can pick up a different lense for about £4 as well to improve the light dispersal.
Here it is in a pitch black farm shed

Another Lumenator fan here.

Whatever you get make sure that it's brighter than your mates. Otherwise if you're riding ahead of him you'll be riding in your own shadow.

Although that did help me get a PB on one of our local sections the other night

I'd like something with batteries built in, USB charging, reliable for less than £100, please.

Oly does a Solarstorm X2 (with genuine traits) and battery box with decent batteries here £65

Can't beat this for output and runtime from anywhere IMHO....

You don't need to, but you could even add an enthusiast charger such as a Nitecore I4, or preferably an Xtar VP2 for £16-£35 if you really want to monitor the batteries etc.

Lumenator all the way for me. Brilliant (ha) piece of kit and the bloke who makes them is one of life's good guys, so you won't be left hanging if something does go awry.

I run that on my bars and (probably to my shame) a single LED ultrafire P7 on my lid (from amazon) on the helmet. I'm probably going to buy one of smudges single LED lights for my lid when the P7 finally dies, but it just refuses to! It's going into its third winter now, has been whacked on low branches and shed door frames and just keeps going.

Chinese lights are excellent if you get a good'un. You are on your own pretty much if you get a duff one. You pays your money, you takes your chances...........

C and B seen... Bargain for the performance. Had mine a few years and it's working perfectly.

Basically a Chinese light, with the added help of a UK based company if you have any issues.

I appreciate all the responses and will be looking each one up :).

Pricewise I'm not overly fussy - more bothered about the price being good value for the product. Not looking to spend top dollar either though! As with anything, the cheaper the better.

Quality I am after is something strong and stable on its mount that isn't going to turn on the bars during a bumpy descent, able to take rocky peak district trails.

Obviously the brighter the output the better, ditto battery life.

The Lumenator does look good, as does Torchy - Big price difference which makes me wonder what am I getting on the Lumenator/missing from the Torchy?

Thanks
