I need a new light and would rather order sooner than wait until I'm desparate.

I was going to order the glow worm from neninja but was wondering if there is anything better out there that I should look at. Had a trawl of the usual places but there doesn't seem to me much new stuff.

Looking for a headlight primarily, something that sticks up less than the standard cheapo chines ones (I'll move that to the bars).

Anyone seen anything or heard a rumor of a new 5000lumen magicshine?

I doubt anything new from MS will be what you want for the head. They don't really do low profile. I was tempted by the Glo-worm, but decided to stick with what I have this winter, and get a dropper post instead!!

I think small twin XML are seemingly where it's at this year for helmet units (well so far).
There's a number of triple XML (look on ebay for fluxient) or big twin XML (Inton/MJ-880) units that are pumping out huge amounts of lumens for the bars that are too big/heavy for helmet use

Both Smudge (mtbbatteries.co.uk) and Neninja (crgmoto.co.uk) have both got twin XML advertised (smudges aren't out yet), with a very reasonable outputs & seemingly low profile units for helmet use.

The cheap as chips chinese units are starting to appear too

Don't forget STW users get £20 off until 15th September using GLOWORM20

The Gloworm mounts to the front of your helmet so would be lower profile than many lights.

Here's a couple of independent reviews (one showing helmet mounting)

Quick question regarding the glow worm, is the battery connector the same as hope's?

I have a vision 4 with 2 batteries, so would be good if the batteries were inter changeable! 8)

I'm not sure about the Hope connector. The Gloworm uses the same type of connector as Magicshine, BikeRay and loads of other lights.

neninja, do the 'Inton 2 x XML U2 Mountain bike light' also benefit from the £20 off? and when do you expect them to be in stock again?

could one theoretically buy now for the reduced price, and wait for delivery?

No the £20 discount is only on the Gloworm X2.

The Inton won't be available again until October.

I purchased an Inton last year, nothing I found could touch it for the money.

This is quite interesting, no idea how up to date it is though:

The Gloworm looks properly nice!

The cheap as chips chinese units are starting to appear too

They've just listed a new 3xT6 light for £41! This price got you a single T6 last year.

3600 lumens out of 4x18650s, what sort of run time would we be looking at on full burn? can't see any details on the linky.

Certainly got me excited, any reason I shouldn't purchase??

Slight hijack, but has anyone tried those Fluxient rear lights with 'laser beams'?

A T6 LED max output is about 1,000 lumens at 5amps although you would hope they would be driven at 2.8amps which gives about 850 lumens so this light would probably total 2,500 lumen, still a hell of a lot! I've found somewhere else listing it but there's no more info. I'd estimate it would run at full for about an hour.

Lightmalls are good so no problem ordering from them but it still comes from China so expect a few weeks for delivery and don't use your paypal password for setting up an account on their website. The light itself looks like usual Magicshine copy quality so may need some tweaking and waterproofing but that won't be putting me off getting one.

Exposure have got this baby which has some sort of accelerometer/gradient sensor in it to auto-dim the light when you're climbing and auto-brighten it when you accelerate or start descending.

Sounds pretty cool.

Pot kettle 😉

In your experience what would you expect the cheapo 3xT6 to put out and run for? Appreciate you may not give a toss as it's as far removed from your stuff as can be.

This looks interesting.
http://www.bikelightsuk.com/front_bike_lights/fluxient_3xu2_3000_lumen_bike_light_P593.html

3000 lumens from 3x U2s, 2.7 hours run time on full and a 2year warranty.

it was not a comment on owt you said aimed at the ludicrous lumen counts these lights are advertising
your figures are better.
30 watts for the triple run at 3 amps. and approx 33 watts power in the 4 cell battery so yep round about an hour
and more like 2000 ish lumins

still bright though and cheap .

Jonba, useful question, thanks. Spurred me to get on and make a long overdue light upgrade... At least this season of darkness I might be able to see where I'm going. I've been getting a bit bothered that my light can't break the shadow created when 'well lit' mates ride behind me 😳

Neninja, took the plunge with one of your Gloworm X2s. I had been looking at the Intron but hey ho, looking forward to receiving and testing shortly. Will add comments to this thread when I can.

This will be the third winter using the Trout Liberator (actually already using it now on rides after 2030)

Well I bit the bullet and hit buy on the £42 "3500" lumen light from lightmalls,

Just got an e-mail saying its been loaded onto the slowboat and is on its way.

Have been using Magicshine 1000 lumen light for the last year so will let you know how it compares, sounds like twice as bright with half the battery time!

That Lightmalls 3x XML. Wouldn't it be more efficient to run all 3 leds at 1/3 2/3 and full power rather then having the modes 1,2 and 3 LEDs on?

Cool. It's packed and will be on the way tomorrow with RM so you should have it on Wednesday. Your comments and feedback will be appreciated. I'm certain you'll be very pleased - it's a cracking package.

Very tempted by that lightmall triple XML. I don't have any need for it, but seems rude not too

Got my glow worm yesterday. Initially very impressed. Much brighter than my '900' lumen magic shine. Well built and great as a helmet light.

I was sorely tempted by the Gloworm myself but found torchythebatteryboys light database and went for the 3000 lumen Fluxient. Its a fairly hefty unit but as a bar light i dont think it can be beaten for the price... the output is immense. Ceratinly very close to the claimed lumen count and the head unit is a quality item.

Had mates with R4's and the magic shines letting me past as the Fluxient was casting such a massive shadow. It runs the full 2.5hrs on max without any fade and i'm mighty impressed with it, its so bright i can literally ride as quickly as i can during the day. 2 year guarantee makes it well worth a look in my opinion

Rob Jackson...I got some of smudges v2 lights earlier this year for mayhem. Excellent package. Beam pattern is very good.3 hours on full beam. Fit on helmet nicely too. Ran one on bars and one on helmet. Plenty enough light and great service too.
