I'm looking at reducing a bit of weight from the bike. I did a lot of climbing over many hours last week and think a bit of trimming might make things more enjoyable and mean I go further. My wheels at present are front: Stan's Flow on Hope hub, rear: Mavic EX 729 on Hope hub. I'm looking at some Crest rims (new) for £37 at the moment and getting an itchy finger.
I know it's not a huge weight saving but that Ex729 is way more bomb proof than I need and both wheels were second hand from a notorious destroyer of bikes.
Good deal or does anyone have other recommendations?

You'll need new spokes, and your old rims/spokes won't be worth much/anything. Sell your wheels and buy something like the Superstar/Crest wheelset. Will likely work out cheaper.

Keep your old wheels, and buy new lighter ones too.

I dunno, a 729 to a crest is a big saving on a wheel, plus tubeless it too for a little more.

What tyres? Can make as big a difference.

Also that's a huge change in type of rim, right from one end of the spectrum to the other...

Never been a better time to buy used 26 inch wheels tbh... Buying rims + spokes isn't generally cheap.
