build
26 frame
orbit xl2
revs 110 140 air uturn maxle lite
pro 2's on 355's maxxis advantage tubeless
sunline carbon risers
ritchey wcs stem
slx brakes with 160 alliator aries rotors
slx chainset 170 arms
970 cassette(have an xtr to put on after winter)
sram chain 951 i think
superstar cabon post
charge spoon
hope qr clamp
xt shifters
deore front
xt shadow rear

will need a new chain for the cassette whats a good optionfor that
have though of changing forks for 120 reba team maxle lites if i can find a 2nd hand pair

build weighs between 25.5 and 26 at present with full crud guards on it

Sounds pretty light as it is, doubt there are many cost effective ways to drop any serious amount of weight.

I mean I am building some lightweight wheels (about 1300-1350gr the pair) but that might be a pound lower than yours and they will cost me near the 400£ mark. An expensive pound especially when you have pretty darn good wheels. (my current ones are over 2000gr and second hand so I am justifying it that way.)

I think the forks are more cost effective but that is something you are considering anyway. Probably you are dropping another pound off from that change no?

The other change would be the tyres? The maxxis are pretty heavy.

And no offense but if you are a bigger fella maybe try and lose a couple of pounds yourself? :p I can't go much lower am 8 1/2 stone

erm not much you can do cheaply tbh....

foam grips
cut your post down if you can or get an ibeam post & saddle
Maybe go 2x9 / 1x9 (or push the boat out and buy an xtr crankset)
drill some stuff out??!

think you could save a few grams by swapping q/rs to bolt ups. (post & wheel)

drill holes in your cranks?

take a dump before a ride?

remove every other spoke?

cut your handlebars done to 400mm?

chop off the bottom of the seatpost?

or just ride it? ie mtfu

what the **** are you doing with a bolt through 140mm revs on an xc frame? jeez you can shed a load of weight and not screw up the handling of the bike all in one go. Even 120's are bit long for a scandal. On-one say 100mm max. I know it's the same geometry as an inbred, but if you want a fast xc bike (I'm guesssing that's why you have a scandal) then stick with some light xc forks. Major weight weenie fail. 😀
with the lightweight stans rims a nice set of nobby nic racing ralphs will go tubeless easily and free up some rotating weight as well.

revs are on there as they came off a 575, ridden most of the time at 110 and its just nice like that, the bike isused fro everything in the lakes, so the ability to go 130 on some of the steeper descents in nice, a pair of u uturn revs would be best, an you get a uturn maxle lite version?

a 3.5lb scandium frame in the lakes....don't ever drop it in rocks 😀 I fubar'd a scandium frame in one minor drop in the peaks! light weight race frames and big pointy things don't go so well together. 😥

Did those Sunline bars not have a safety recall?

This is the way to have a light scandal;

FSA Carbon Pro Risers

Poshbikes nitrile foam grips

KCNC SC Wing Scandium stem (98g)

XTR Shifters

Hope Mono Mini Brakes, Ti bolt upgrade

Cane Creek S8 headset

SDG I Beam seatpost and I fly saddle

Hope Pro III SP on DT Swiss 4.1 wheels

Bonty Mud X tyres

Continental supersonic Inner tubes (100g a tube)

XTR rear mech

XTR front mech

XTR Chainset

XTR pedals

KMC chain (can't remember which one but it's lighter than XTR)

RS SID forks.

I haven't weighed it, but it doesn't appear to weigh a lot. 😉

Mud X are pretty light for a mud specific tyres that actually work, and the wheelset is light enough for my 6'2" 13.5 stone (on a good day) body.

Anyhows my aim wasn't the lightest bike in the world, it's my everyday MTB.

18" scandal

hope pro2 on 717 with nobby nic/racing ralphs, bontrager tubes (105g ea)

token superlight race seat clamp
XT skewers
some ti bolts in there too

Although, i am considering buying some SP-3s on stans 355 in the new year.

European OS sunline carbon bars had a recall. Americans and 25.4 luddites need not worry though.

Fork and tyres otherwise. You'd get a few quid selling your revs, and 2009 SIDs aren't ridiculously expensive. If you are feeling really spendy then posh cranks and formula r1 brakes i suppose. If you spend a lot of time out of the saddle you could go for a charge knife or an sdg ti fly. But that is well into the territory of diminishing returns!

a pair of sid teams is roughly half a pound lighter than my maguras, and even a pair of rebas (which are about the equivalent to my menjas), you can get them for about £325 brand spankers from the likes of merlin.

as for brakes, if you want light you need magura marta SL, but they are fearsomely expensive.

Hey, congratulations - hope you still got your lunch.
Jyoti? - that's unusual, or is it just your dodgy spelling (faulty keyboard?)

Mrs Mochas Scandal has gears and suspension and comes in at 23 ish. That's SIDs, Bonty xlite wheels, lots of carbon, xtr brakes & shifters, foam grips. Take a look at grips ffs. Lock ons around 200g and foam ones about 28g!! Any less than that and you're throwing around some serious cash...

agree, i binned my lock ons for some 25g bontrager foams.

i know i could make mine lighter by putting sids on, would save me just under half a pound, but the cost for me to change is quite significant.

the best place to save weight is wheels/tyres/tubes though, definitely.

Mine previously was 23.7 with different tyres/saddle/seat clamp etc etc, i'd like to see it sub 23.
