I'm building a budget £500 46 mm carbon rim wheelset, more specifically the Light Bicycle AR46 in satin (semi-gloss) 3k weave finish. Easier to clean, doesn't look tacky like full gloss can, plus the weave continues onto the brake track (vertical 3k twill would look best IMO but is extra money).

Hubs will be silver polished Novatechs (have a chrome front fork yadda yadda).

I'm 87 kg, bike 10.5 kg, sometimes carry up to 10 kg in a backpack - thinking Sapim Revolution 2-1.5-2 mm in front and D-light 2-1.65-2mm on the rear?
Or perhaps some other combo makes more sense?
Could do D-light all over too, weight isn't a huge factor although a quicker accelerating wheel is fun. Want to avoid brake rubbing when sprinting.

I’ve got 3 or 4 sets of LB rims built on D-lights. All very nice builds. I wouldn’t use (DT) Revolutions in a 24h build at 87kg as they can be a bit springy.

Also for the front wheel? I know, splitting hairs here about 20 grams here which is what going all D-light would add.

DT comp IMO at that weight and spoke count.

Why compromise structural integrity, safety (teeth) etc for literally a few grams?

Because it's a very stiff deep carbon rim for a road bike? For my race bike I have 20/24h on 60mm carbon rims and CX ray spokes. No problems so far, but this wheelset would be used more and is a bit shallower so I reckon going up in spoke count makes sense.

AFAIK you're not compromising anything with D-light spokes, but question is if lasers could be better - smoother ride perhaps on the front, a tad cheaper and a smidge aeroer :p

Fair enough. I really don't care. Literally a few grams. I wouldn't compromise

I built with d-lights all round mainly because it was cheaper, 3 of my sides ran near identical spoke lengths so I could buy a box. they ride well. Certainly stiffer than the Roval wheels with cx-Rays that I had before.

Just wondering what to choose, the real life difference might not be that significant. Can go:

1 All Sapim Laser
2 Sapim laser front, d-light rear drive side + laser non drive side
3 All sapim d-light
4 Sapim d-light fron, race rear drive side, d-light rear non drive side (overkill?)

2 or 3 seems best to me.

I like Lasers- I can't comment on your specific case at 90kg, because I weigh nowt, but I've used them in most of my wheels for years now without any issues, including a set of 29er wheels I use entirely for uplifts and the alps. I used Dlights to rebuild a wheel recently and honestly couldn't tell any difference over teh lasers except in the wallet.

D-lights are a great spoke. Almost as light as CX-rays, but far cheaper and easier to build with. I use them on all my wheel builds when not using CX-rays. I used to use Revolutions, but for the tiny weight penalty (I am a weight weenie) the D-lights are far better.
