I have had some wider rims in 650b for 6 months know.
They have been fine. I would like some 29 inch ones but oem wheels are reducing in price all the time.
I have not been gentle on them up lifts and all sorts
ordered a frameset and carbon wheels and they were sent on monday . the tracking is saying they arrived in the Uk thursday and they were handed to customs for clearance .
today they were released by customs .
does that mean I dont have to pay customs ?
Same tracking messages I got and I haven't heard anything else so you might be in luck
excellent .
I have to say that EMS are very efficient . frameset and built wheels dropped to their depot in China on monday . arrived in the uk on thursday .
cant even send a parcel that quick in this country .
I was fair gobsmacked when mine turned up today.
mind you , they are with PF now , so could take another week to get here . 😆
the wheels are tubular , can I use Jantex or best to use glue ? have used Jantex before on alu rims but never on carbon .
Anyone bought a full build wheelset and happy about it?
Nancy suggest a 33mm wide rim hookless.. For my trail riding.
Should i press the "buy it " button now?
Says mine are at customs and have been since the 15th.....
You might still have to pay customs charges. I've had a couple of packages arrive from the US recently that were delivered straight to my door, but about 2 weeks later I received a customs charge invoice from TNT.
Built up some wheels using Light Bicycle's hookless rims recently. Nice and easy to put together. They came out pretty light using Carbon Ti SL Hubs and DT Revs, 1324g for the pair. ERD measurements for the 27mm width 29er rims were 598.5mm if I remember correctly.
Took a bit of a gamble on the hubs as I couldn't find many real world reviews on the internet. That said, they are beautifully made and so far have been excellent, only time will tell I suppose. Wheels are noticeably more rigid than the Crests builds I previously used on the same bike.
(Please excuse the spokes looking all over the shop in the first picture, this was taken immediately after lacing with no tensioning)

Just got mine. Hookless and built by LB. They look good and are amazingly light :)Time to buy some Stan's tape and get then tubeless.
Nick kent what happened ?
Ordered mine today too, 35mm, 32h, 29ers in matte 3k.
They will be going onto new Pro2s with Revs and bronze nipples.
Also @ nickkent - which rims are those and +1 for what happened?
That looks like you smacked it hard on something, doesn't look like a manufacturing / warranty failure to me I'm afraid? How did it happen?
[quote=_daveR ]Ordered mine today too, 35mm, 32h, 29ers in matte 3k.
Where did you order those? I've just had a look and can't find 35mm 29ers.
Though following nickkent's post I'm feeling a little less enthusiastic than I was!
They might still warranty it. A friend of mine managed to get a warranty replacement with similar damage sustained during the Trans Savoie last year.
Pic here http://singletrackmag.com/forum/topic/superstar-components-am-carbon-rims
Well, had my first ride on mine.
Really, really stiff. Felt nice, and sounded like a monster truck.
The tyre tread footprint was noticeably bigger as well.
aracer, just use the live chat on the site to request a quote from them. With today's exchange rate on PayPal they came in at £258 posted.
Mine are in the UK..Stuck in Customs
Ditto, made it from China in 3 days then been stuck in Coventry for 3 more!!

That's for 2? I'm only after 1 😉
Fingers crossed they will honour the warranty!
Hmm dunno about that, that looks like you've hit a rock or something.
Mine were the 26 inch wide enduro rims (not hookless) and yes I messed up a bit and slammed the rim in to a granite edge. I think an aluminium rim would have dented with the same impact but you can bend ali back.
I have only ridden them a hand full of times so I'm a bit gutted.

You can, but I imagine something like a Flow would still be an effective write-off.
Has anyone laced the 35mm rim to pro2s? I'm curious to know what spoke length you used.
Another Q!
What rim strips are people using on the 35mm rims? I want to run mine tubeless.
Not really knowing too much about carbon rims would any of these be suitable for a do it all road / cx/ light xc?
To take 28c road tyre, 35c cx tyre and occasionally something bigger?
Mine are also coming up as 521 ERD using the cut spoke method, so perhaps best to measure before ordering spokes, if 3mm makes much difference to spoke length.
Yay! - my 29er hookless rims are now built and ready for collection. They’ve been set up tubeless, with Stans tape and standard length tubeless valves, and apparently my 2.4” Conti Mountain King Protections went up a treat. Unfortunately I forgot to ask them to weigh the wheels first, so I don’t know how close I was with my estimated 1630-1650g, but I’m not overly fussed so just I’ll weigh them next time I swap tyres over. A big shout must go to Christian and Joe at Bike Remedy, in Stonehaven, for building the wheels in time for our trip to GT & Inners this weekend.
My 29er 35mm ones are at home now. Still trying to decide on hubs...... Hope or DT240s
DT 240 🙂
FYI my 29er 35mm wide seem to come in at about a 593 ERD so a bit over. Spoke fit seemed fine though (as per DT Calcualtor)!.
240 FTW.
Yup - 240! Lighter, brilliantly simple freehub design that's dead easy to service and the bearings wear very well. As per another thread on here, Hope Pro II bearings just don't seem to last.
Only downside I can see is you need a special tool to get at the inner bearings on the 240.
Does anyone know the cheapest place to buy 240s at the moment? Or is it the usual suspects: CRC, Merlin, German shops etc?
I got a 350 from Koo cycles for £140
What rim strips are people using on the 35mm rims?
I'm planning on using Gorilla tape. See enve video here:
Just need my I9 hubs to arrive and I'll finally be able to get my wheels built (by friendly LBS) and ride my new bike!
Mine are here! Woo! Just got to decide on spokes now.
neil853 - MemberMy 29er 35mm ones are at home now. Still trying to decide on hubs...... Hope or DT240s
They do the exact same job, the DTs are just better at everything, so it's just about budget vs quality. (the central bearing on the DTs is a slight pain, but is offset by the fact that it lasts for years because of the quality sealing)
I can't afford 240s, but I could afford a pair of used wheels with 240s in, so that's what I'm doing- break 'em down, new bearings all round and they'll be as good as new, for a fraction of the price.
been at customs for a week nearly...No letter for payment received
Mine should be built tomorrow with poverty spec Hopes, unfortunately I'm in Germany so won't get them until next week. Ordered some 29mm tape from everyone's favourite online seller superstar for 8 quid, going to give tubeless another go
Ive not really looked into this so maybe a dumbass question?
I was going with derby 29er rims which are:
Outer width: 35mm
Inner width: 29mm
Depth: 30.5mm
http://www.derbyrims.com/technical-specs.html
Do light bicycle do the same 30.5 deep rims as the derbys above?
Best place to get Revolutions and prolocks?
Still waiting for my wheels to be built. Three weeks waiting for right spokes to come in. Now no Prolock nipples for 2 -3 weeks. Going to order them myself online and just go and throw them at the bike shop.
Where did you get those decals made up? I asked Slik and they said they wouldn't adjust the sizing from standard enve which meant they wouldn't fit the rims.
Revolutions from RoseBike. I never bother with pro locks, just std alloys if required.
I think LB will provide you with custom graphics
regretting not getting anything for mine now
Im worried about waiting for spokes so want to get measurements to the LBS before they arrive- anyone know spoke lengths for pro2s with 650b 35mm wide rims?
Are people really putting Enve stickers on non Enve wheels?
Is that not a bit Mr2Ferarri?
I picked up my wheels yesterday afternoon, and first impressions are good. The 35mm rims look a lot more meaty with the tyres fitted, and they give a great shape to the 2.4 Mountain Kings, which now look a good bit wider than they did on the previous rim. They are now on the bike ready for their first thrashing at GT/Inners this weekend 🙂
Guys, some advice please. I really like the sound of these rims. I will ask my LBS to build them up for me but spoke length, ERD and spoke types are all a bit foreign to me.
Is it too much to expect them to figure this all out and build them around the hubs i want, or should i go armed with all this info for them even though there is a very good chance i will get some of it wrong.
Cheers 🙂
If you trust the shop to build the wheels I would hope they have the ability to measure the ERD and put the figures into a spoke calculator. ERD figures are unreliable because there are many variables but hub measurements should be spot on and easily available.

This.
LB will do custom graphics but wont do a copy of a brand (I asked for enves)
And whats wrong with putting whatever stickers you like the look of on your bike?
I've even got my name on mine.....
Yetiman, could you possibly measure how wide the 2.4 Mountain Kings are on the new 35mm rims.
I have the same tyres and when I first unpacked them, they laid on the table at about 3" wide. Ever since have wondered how wide they would be on 35mm or even 45mm Dually's. On my 719's they are only just over 2", say 2.2 at a guess.
Would be good to know the width will be ok on my 2014 Fargo, there looks to be lots of room just now.
Brian.
And whats wrong with putting whatever stickers you like the look of on your bike?
Especially ones that make your rims look 5 times more expensive eh? I'm assuming you'd remove them if you sold them?
Are people really putting Enve stickers on non Enve wheels?
For anyone over 13, that is utterly utterly tragic.
I might put Mavic 117 stickers on mine.
ill see what stickers mbuk has next
I knd of wish id asked for the LB decals, dont think they look too bad tbh

Dymag are "making" carbon roadie wheels now!
For anyone over 13, that is utterly utterly tragic.
Mucho lulz!
Got mine without decals, didn't pull the trigger as I didn't like the colorway etc. Loving those dymag stickers though northwind, how big are they? Marcheseni would be good too....
*scuttles off to search ebay*
Brianp - they aren't far off 2.5" across the widest part of the sidewall. Definitely fatter than they were on my 719's.
You're just jealous because my rims will more awesome than yours. The stickers will increase the stiffness by 2.2%, I'll be an extra 6.4% faster with them and and 11.2% more rad to the gnar.
Marchesini. Gah.
Has anyone built these up for a lefty fork?
Interested in some 650s for my scalpel
Thanks
Has anyone built these up for a lefty fork?
In the process of - LBS has all the gubbins, but they're a bit busy and I'm a relaxed customer 🙂
For anyone over 13, that is utterly utterly tragic
Funny guy!
Thanks Yetiman, 2.5" sounds just right for my Fargo with Fox forks for now and then later when Rooster frame arrives with what ever the best 3" tyre is by then.
Brian
At checkout for the 27mm wide hookless carbon rim there is the option of either all mountain or cross country but the description does not show the difference or mention either or.
Anyone know the difference?
On and on
Built a pair for my 29r lefty, what did you want to know?
Bolt
Hi bolt, just an idea on how they feel on the lefty.
My SLRs are the lightest but they're stiff and track well. I thought about these rims on dt 240s but don't want to end up with a flexy mess killing the front end feel.
My idea is to pop 650s in the 2012 26er frame - I love that frame 🙂
Hi, they seem plenty stiff enough on the 29er even built with dt revs through some pretty rocky stuff this morning,.
Am running tubeless with 26 psi in the front on bontrage xr1 team issue tyres for info.
Should build up even stiffer in 650b.
Bolt

Probably very similiar to the am vs dh 33mm ones- same mould and shape but different layup/density (or somesuch, I know nowt about how it actually works). So you'll get a lighter but less strong option.
(I asked for enves)
Please be joking
For anyone over 13, that is utterly utterly tragic.
I actually agree with you for once
I might put Mavic 117 stickers on mine.
Actual lol! I might go for Rigida...
ooohh mine landed in customs on friday, really hope i get them next week so can get them built up for ukge!
How does it work with the customs clearance process? My rims have been with UK customs for over a week according to the tracking, but I haven't received any communication from them.
