Though Enve would go better with your lah-de-dah fancy XTR shifters 🙂

ubyk do charge a bit of a premium over buying direct but I guess if you want uk supplier/warranty it might be worth it.

Blimey, are they worth 3 times the price of a say a scraper?

I suppose it depends on what your say a scrapper is made from? And how long it is of course?

I got mine from Fraser at Happy Cog wheelbuilders in Edinburgh, not sure if he still does them or not.

I'm very tempted by the Sixth Element wheel set for £899 with Hope pro 4s and a 2 year warranty.
And 0% interest free credit too.

Just buy them direct and they're not.
One of my Scrapers is back for warranty.
Four of the spokes have started to pull through the rim after 4 months use.
My LB rims have been trouble free for over 2 years.

TBH apart from lead times, I don't see any reason not to just go direct to LB... I tested their customer service a while back and was more than happy (I broke a rim, not even remotely a warranty matter even if it hadn't been too old, they gave me a solid discount towards a replacement- and no real pressure to do so, I just said "Hey I broke this thing" and they said "Bummer! Have a great deal on a new one"

I will say though that the latest alu rims are really bloody good, and LB have gone up in price, if I was buying today I might still go carbon but quite possibly not. DT and WTB have really changed the game.

I should have added I have always bought direct from LB and wouldn't pay Ubyk prices though I can understand why they charge more. I'd also stick to the older, cheaper designs rather than the new asymmetric. Or, given the state of the £/$, there is a pretty good chance I'd go aluminium if I needed rims now

Abigale has been competing in Enduro all season with some Sixth Elemments on her Enduro. Just setting off to Finale for the last round of the EWS. They dont look like they have been used and are still running as true and smooth as the day she got them. They have also done four weeks in the Alps. We have been running Rovals, LBs, and Superstars on our other bikes. If and when we need some more it will be Sixth Elements.

I can't take anyone seriously who is 'promoting' Sixth Element stuff.

Well here it is folks...our Sixth Element Supported Rider Scheme.
Race mountain bikes? XC or Enduro? How does a UK custom built carbon wheelset sound?
Sixth Element are offering racers a chance to upgrade their wheelsest to a Hope hubbed carbon wheelset as part of the Sixth Element Supported Rider Programme.
Simply choose your wheel size, rim width (30mm, 40mm or 50mm) and decal colour from our website www.sixthelement.co.uk and send this spec to us at build@sixthelement.co.uk with a racing CV, social media profiles and your aims for the season. If we believe you've got what it takes, we'll be in touch and confirm your place on the
programme.
What do we offer you?
- The Hope hub version of our popular and tough carbon MTB wheelsets at the rim width and colour decal of your choice for just £600 (RRP is £899)
- Promotion of your racing/results on our social media sites
- Referral code for friends and family which when used to buy any full price
product from our website earns you 5% commission on the sale
What do we expect in return?
- Regular social media mentions of the wheels and of you being part of the programme (Minimum two mentions per week on all media)
- Brand ambassador role on the trails - tell people about Sixth Element. Sell the brand to friends and fellow riders
- Refer other racers to the Sixth Element Supported Rider Programme
- Send race reports and pictures to us to help promote you and the brand via social media
Get in touch today!
NB: Crash replacement is at cost - rims at £250 each,
rebuilds free plus any spokes and bearings needed at cost

You can't tell what's astroturfing & what isn't - maybe me being cynical, more so when ridden & raced carbon wheels still look like 'new'.

Sixth Element make more sense as at ~450 for complete wheel compared to 430 for the rim only from LB

Not if you buy them direct. 🙂

How did you get them to be that expensive? I just checked the price for the 29er ones I have (which seem to be the same as 6th use in their wheelset) and it's £170 inc post, plus whatever tax.

Hob Nob - that's quite amazing, but hardly surprising

Wow. That really is £413. $200 from LB. Serious markup, that.

Been down the carbon rim route and 3 busted rims later i'm oout!

My older type LBs are still going but a pair of the 2nd generation and one of the latest incarnations have gone by the ball.

Gone away from wide too as I prefer the way I can roll into corners with a mid width rim.

Very happy with the way my Stans Mk3s performed. I am no longer convinced that super stiff is good in a rim.

I do now run Procore in one wheelset and home made Huck Norris in the other.

If looking for cheap carbon then old style LB or Nextie would be best.

You said "from LB", that rim is £195 from LB (plus taxes)

Apologies, I can see how that was misleading

Appreciate your input

£195 is massively different to £431
