Anyone know if its possible to replace the lamp in an ARC unit?, or would i be better getting one of the new LED head units? AFAIK you can use the standard lion batteries (i have two that i could use) and would like to keep the costs down!.

You can replace the HiD bulb in the head unit or you could upgrade to a Seca head unit and use your existing batteries.
got my seca 800 today!
I ended up giving up on trying to find a replacement ballast for mine and bought a second hand unit from eBay.
That said, although it's a great light, the batteries can be rewired and used with a Magicshine or equivilent, and very well do they work.
Give it a try, may save you the heart ache.
