No he's all about narrow/wide.

He's too busy getting inked with some orsum art. Enduro specific art, obviously.

Am I the only person interested in Liam Killeen.

Just seems to have dropped off the grid since the Olympics.

I know he wasn't enduro / 27.5 / fat bike / fat thin chain etc.

But nevertheless he was a great rider.

Broke his ankle during the Olympics. British Cycling publicly stated that it would be his last Olympics. I guess thats enough to discourage anyone from carrying on.

Roll on 2016 when we will hopefully see Grant Ferguson on the podium at Rio.

Then reportedly hit by a truck after the ankle injury...

DanW is correct. And his name is still on the very short list for commie games in Glagow.

Liam hardly ever raced when he was a pro, just turned up when he was fit enough to win. Didn't need to train during races.

Last I heard he was thinking of buying a camper van and going trail riding for fun rather than wages

About 3 months (maybe less) after recovering from snapping his leg at the olympics, he got hit by a truck and broke his pelvis and maybe his femur too. He's pretty much retired from competitive XCO now. He was a world class bike rider with some terrible misfortune.

If he was to get a goggle sponsor he'd make a killing.

He spent quite a bit of time assisting with youth training round these parts (with Ms Moseley too).

This thread is like a massive in joke I don't get. Why the dislike?

He's currently mid-way through filming a TV series where he assists in fighting the moral causes of various celebrities.

It's called Killeen, in the Name of....

I don't think there's any dislike? I can't find any.

I'm interested in why darkcyan is suddenly so interested. If s/he's always been this interested, why doesn't s/he know already? S/he certainly seems more interested than anyone else on the thread, who must all have been a little bit interested in order to look in and post.

Edit: flatboy - ho, ho!

its basically most people on here haven't got a clue, have no interest in cycling, only in sitting in car parks chatting about the latest gadget.

AHA!! I thought there'd be something. 😀

Understandable, though. If I were homosexual, I'd probably want to buy him a drink at the very least.

He's back 🙂

Killeen sustained an open fracture dislocation of his ankle at the London 2012 Olympic Games and made his unofficial competitive racing comeback last month at Mountain Mayhem 24 hour as part of a team.

However, Sherwood will be the first cross-country event the five-time British champion has taken part in for nearly two years.

I think in BC terms if it's not got their official 'it's one of ours' stamp on it the it's a stroll in the park.

...after starting on the 5th row of the grid and making it up to 11th after the first lap. Definitely back.

grtdkad - are you or your kids MCS members? I did enjoy putting on my FB feed that my kids were been coached by Liam Killeen this week because Tracey Moseley wasn't there 😉

I have had a few chats with Liam (once when I met him in Waitrose!), and as mentioned above his long layoff has been basically due to recovering from injury - the original ankle injury had a long recovery, he wasn't ready to race when he broke his leg when hit by a truck. Was able to ride hard on the road, but not off-road for quite a long time.

Brilliant news! He's coming back fast and improving week on week as he gets into racing again. Good luck Liam!

Crikey, I can remember him being a wet behind the ears teenager on a WCPP training camp in Spain many years ago, good on him for never giving up

yeah good on him,
good to see he's back, very talented rider in his prime, up with the very best on his day.

he's gone past (lapped) me a few times at events effortlessly, not one of the shouty 'rider!'-type wannabes.

I think he also went under with a mystery illness for a while too no?

shame he's had bad luck in his career. I think he'll do well at the Comm games but Grant F on home turf should probably get the win in the circumstances.

aracer, yes. Me and middle child are MCS members.

My daughter did the coaching sessions in 2012/13 which she loved ... unfortunately she's had a few crashes in quick succession while out with me so confidence has taken a knock.

I remember giving it the full beans on my last lap at Mayhem this year when someone cruised past me like I was in reverse (I was averaging around 40 min laps, so not hanging around). I glanced up at the rapidly departing figure, spotted a shock of blonde hair hanging out of the back of the helmet, slim figure and deeply tanned legs and my first thought was '**** moi, she's rapid'. Then I saw the Malvern CC jersey and twigged it was Liam Killeen. His riding style was just so smooth he made riding look effortless and the trail seem completely flat and featureless. It was quite enlightening to see just how good these top riders are in comparison to mere mortals, as opposed to in elite races.
