Help!

Been with Direct Line for way too long and their premiums are crazy, had a quote from L&G which was 2/3rds the price for the same cover (actually better).

Policy has a £3,000 for bikes. I specified one as that appeared to fit their criteria.

Luckily I called them because as the total value of the bikes at the property exceeds 3k they can't offer ANY cover - its outside their policy conditions!

Any recommendations for a company that does ensure bikes over this on their policy?

I wasn't actually after insuring the bikes specifically I just want better value home and contents.

I've used Lloyds/Halifax and I'm currently with NFU.

You are correct in that some companies won't offer insurance of any sort in that situation even if you've arranged separate cover for your bikes. I guess they see ownership as increasing your overall risk of theft/burglary.

M&S here, although just doing a John Lewis quote like for like, will be going there at renewal time.

Pedalcover - you can specify how much value you want to cover (bikes and kit) at home and away from home.

Someone mentioned Nationwide but they wouldn't cover me. They said they would and then when I signed up and cancelled my previous cover, they stated that actually I wasn't covered due to the bike values. After a bit of arguing they honored it for a year but after that I had to look elsewhere. I was not impressed.

I might look at specialist insurance again. It used to be so much cheaper getting the bikes covered through house insurance but I find it's getting harder and more expensive that specialist cover might be competitive now.

We're with the AA (but my bikes are no longer superbike money).

AA with the Cube valued at £2k and the Capra at £3k, £80k of contents, away from home, couple watches/rings named, Roadside cover, etc - £212.
Was £168 until I added the Capra. Thought £30'ish was a bargain for a brand new £3k bike.
