HNY peeps..
Question about the contents of the battery for the full eeb versions not the SL.
The battery case is very long and tough to get in a backpack and carry a spare. The 700 and 500 cases are the same length so is there a void at one end inside the 500w version? Can I open it up and ghetto shorten it by 33% then glue the case closed at the end? (yes, warranty but I bought a couple of used off ebay).
I cant find any pictures of the internals anywhere for this type of battery... anyone help with this one?
I had a feeling that the 500Wh battery uses different cells…
Yes, I think it might be 18650 vs 21700 cells…
500W battery uses 18650 cells and the 700w uses 21700 cells so its very unlikely there is a void at one end of the 500w battery
i tried riding with a battery in a back pack for around 3 rides and two things really put me off
First was the actual weight of the 500w battery, after 4 hours my back had enough, the 700w battery weighs nearly 4kg so once you swap over your then lugging that around on your back for the rest of the ride
2nd thing was the risk of causing damage to my back if i came off, even with a bag with a built in back protector if you come off the back of the bike and land on your back that battery pack is going to do some damage
I ended up buying a range extender instead and kept the 500w battery in the car so i could loop back and swap over to keep riding
Good info, thanks for that about the different cells. Current way of working on rides is to cover a good distance and stash one battery but it does mean returning the same way...

Your right though, with Deuter backpack even with the stoneguard removed its a pain and an off would be an issue... plus it moves and the zip gets opened.

@escrs, re range extender I'm thinking thats for the SL versions of these bikes though a smaller battery cage option for the full fat Levo would be interesting.Â
The range extenders have been around for the full fat Levo before Spesh even came up with the SL one
Trailwatts have been making them since the gen 1 Levo came out
(IIRC) Be aware that the 3rd Gen Trailwatts range extender, makes changes to your wiring loom*, and Spesch have denied a warranty to an owner, due to the changes. Also I wasn't aware but the TW system seemingly charges the main battery, rather than is an addition to it. This means you can drain the main OEM battery and not have time for the TW extended to charge it. As one (larger) owner who only used turbo, discovered & reported, which TW confirmed would be (or was) the case. I doubt this is what you'd be doing but it worth knowing all of the in and out of these systems. I'll still be look at getting one, once my warranty expires.
*and the extender cannot be removed ala the earlier version.
Ive not heard that before for the gen 3!
I know the gen 1 Levo and Kenevo TW extender battery drained in tandem with the Spesh battery and could be easily removed and the wiring easily put back to standard, wonder if that is the same for the Gen 2?
Didn't quite get that right, so the Gen3 battery extender is removable but the wiring stay in place. The gen 2 and gen 3 harness are different, as I asked about getting one for my old Gen2 Levo and then swapping it into a Gen3..
I know the gen 1 Levo and Kenevo TW extender battery drained in tandem with the Spesh battery
TBH I forget the exact reason but the situation can arise (in extreme cases), where the extended is still has charge but none in the main battery & it won't run off the extender.
The trailwatt section of emtb forum is worth checking out
Cheers ive been on EMTB forum since 2019, thats where i found out about the Extender for my old Gen1 Levo and gen1 Kenevo
Was thinking of getting another for my gen2 Levo as ive no plans to upgrade to a gen3 or even a gen4 when they next release one
