Further on the custom build mission I need the best levers, cables & housing for my Avid BB7's ( 160mm & 185mm).

Anyone got a spot on set up?

I have used old xtrs and normal cables = fine - currently using avid fr5 levers and normal cables = again fine!

have seen people use fancy cables - dont see the need really!

they are great brakes and dont fade when hot...

I used standard leavers with avid full metal jackets, not sure if they still do them.

they were really good made alot of difference from the normal cables.

I use mine with a Shimano Deore v-brake lever. It seems to work the same as with the avid speed dials I have lying around. I prefer the feel of the lever blade on the avids though, and they dial in closer to the bar than the shimanos which is good for short fingers.

Bloody love my BB7, it "bites" the disc better than both an Avid Juicy 5 and a Formula K18!

My BB7 front brake is set up with Speed Dial lever & Goodridge cable. I run Clarkes' pads & my brake uses Hope 203mm floating disc.

Power is bloody fantastic & set up is so easy. Modulation is brilliant & the lever feels perfect.

Cheap enough, robust & genuinely powerful. I love BB7's. 😀

One tip: swap your cable outer every few months & it'll always feel great.

Gore rideon cables here with Avid Ultimate speed dial levers, which you can sometimes get cheaper on ebay.

Very smooth - like hydros really.

The Avid levers give you the speed dial which is worth having so you can adjust the pad/rotor distance (one of the main reasons I use them) and still get the bite point right.

XT V-brake levers and standard shimano outers with teflon inners. I also skooshed the outers full of Finish Line dry lube before hand.

Feel great, work perfectly.

Normal cables here, though not with full length outers. Full metal jackets look good but way too much £££ - must be do-able more cheaply DIY.

I had full length outers on the Sutra and now run a split outer to the rear of the Amazon. Can't say I've noticed any difference in performance.
