Just built up my first LLS hardtail. Swapped a Yeti Big Top for this Last Fast Forward [thanks for the frame Stu], so quite a difference. It will see me through the winter, mainly on local [tame] trails. Will hopefully have a few bigger days out over in Shropshire & Wales to push it a bit more. Aesthetically reminds me of an Evil Sovereign v2 I had 10 years ago. Just had one short trip out last night so early days but rides well and first impressions of the DT fork are good. Only thing I still need to change is the saddle as I'm used to something flatter. Lets see yours!

I have no idea :).
Chainstays are reasonably short on this one so perhaps its the wrong term.

Stanton Switch9er

Shortish chainstays too, but I think the Switch9er qualifies on intent..

that's a nice sit up and beg bike in the first post - the tyres look very comfy. Can you fit a basket on the front? 🙂

Ragley BigWig. 150mm Pikes. 29 X 2.6 wheels/tyres. 11sp 11-46 gearing. Recently built up, frame and parts from here, eBay and some new stuff.

Hasn't gone totally swimmingly, took it to the Lakes two weeks ago, smashed the mech into the wheel on the first day. Bodged a SS fix, but then spannered myself on a rock descending Whiteless Pike on the second day.

Fitted a new mech last week, then 3km in to the shakedown ride, a big stick kept up and jammed itself into the mech, wheel, taking out another two spokes.

Other than those setbacks, it's a lovely bike to ride.

Honestly the only thing I can think for this to be the case is the thin tubes. A friend of mine has a V2 Sov, and its so short and steep it looks like its been made wrong and then ridden into a wall.

Anyway. Here's mine. Soon to be retired for a custom Kingdom Vendetta.

Probably not helped by the 150mm fork -it as all Wiggle had left. Can always get it lowered when I service it but I'll see how I go on it first.

No basket mounts on this one 😉

No idea.
I'm still broken and can't ride it yet.
I got upgraded with a stainless steel plate last week though so I'll hopefully be able to ride it in a month or so.

Honestly the only thing I can think for this to be the case is the thin tubes.

I had a black Evil and ran the same Bel Air saddle so along with the steel tubes the FF reminded me of that bike [I'll see if I have a photo]. The Evil was also one of the more 'overbuilt' hardtails in its day. Sure this is 29, slacker etc.

@singlespeedstu - How straightforward was it ordering from Marino?

Did the frame turn out as expected in terms of clearances, spec, weight etc?

Is it wearing a R725 decal?

Lets just say it is ongoing.
TBF Luke at Marino UK has been very good to deal with and is sorting things out for me.

725 is correct.

Don't want to derail this thread so I'll start a new one when everything is sorted and I can ride again.

My P7 29. SO a versatile bike. From XC-SDW in a day, to toddler carrying duties, to Alpine rocky trails, to larking about.

PS. I'm sorry for the OCDs out there with my mismatch tyres! I dont care too much for looks - price wins everytime lol!

Two of my riding mates have Moxie's. They look great and ride really well. Inspired me to change from this:

https://flic.kr/p/2gxDGcq

to

https://flic.kr/p/2jFLmAx

They aren't *that* different in Geo but they ride VERY differently

That Arcturian looks amazing.

Walleater - is it an XL? The 29+ wheels look very in proportion.

Gotama, thanks! It's a Large but it's pretty damn long. I've had four 'enduro' bikes before this and I'm surprised at just how much I can ride on it.

In what way? I had a SolarisMax then changed it for a Switch9er, Solaris felt like a better all rounder, slightly more comfortable, while the Switch9er feels more like a traditional hardtail, quite playful and a little harsh.

I have finally built a Chromag Doctahawk, that is low, long and slack! 62 head angle and 525 reach. Will post a pic tomorrow when I get it out the house.

In what way?

Well... for me it feels like it has a bit more trail damping, and if you commit weight forward an amazing amount of grip. I've also taken it down some descents that felt a lot more sketchy/bouncy on the Solaris.

However it is not like for like. Solaris is 140mm/Bardino 160. S: 27.5 chubby (2.8/2.6), B: 29 (2.6/2.4) on similar width rims. Bardino has Rimpacts front and back.

Maybe it's because the Solaris is a M and the Bardino a ML (slack HA/steeper SA), but it feels a 'bigger' bike and needs a good shove to get it moving. When it does move tho it feels unstoppable.

I'll be rebuilding the Solaris with a 120 or 130mm fork. Keep the chubbies.

@alex, what difference did you notice? My riding mate has a Bardino and I'm on a SMax and I find the longer reach the main difference (I prefer it).

@alex - oh just saw you've already answered my questions:)

... FWIW mate has a ML Bardino 35/150mm and i'm on a L SMax 36/140mm.

Waiting on a Switch9er now, will be interesting to see how that compares.

Deffo long and low, not super slack but it is one of the finest genuine 'all rounder' MTBs I've ridden.

Long low and slack head angle My Big Dog is actually longer than a SolarisMax by dint of a slacker head angle. Must be measured at sag. Rides perfectly normally. I prefer it with a 35 stem. Better downhill and pretty much the same up.

L- Long reach/ wheelbase
L-Low BB
S- Slack head angle.
Some of the bikes here seem to be missing in some of the features though.

Here's my 27.5er Bamboo frame on its way through the final build stages at the moment...
DIY Bamboo bike frame

Looks nicer with the epoxy coatings, and way less pink than when it was sanded:
1st epoxy coat

64deg HA, 45mm BB drop, 435mm chainstays, 500mm reach, 625mm stack, 80deg STA, 450mm Seattube, 142x12 dropouts, 44mm headtube, 73mm BB, 31.6 ST, with routing for internal dropper.
Designed around 160mm 555mm a2c fork.

Probably about 2weeks till its a usable bike.
(a couple more rounds of low visco epoxy and tidying up)
Only 6months in the making so far! :).

What makes you choose super slack HT over a full suspension?

I love a good hardtail but bikes like the hello Dave are deep into quite extreme trail / park bike territory. Or have you all got decent tail or enduro bikes as well.

I love a HT in general too (most commonly risen bike is actually rigid) it's just because these are in the super slack territory I ask
