Still carrying a bit of an injury (tendonitis) that's getting better slowly. Rd 3 Brass Monkeys tomorrow.

Most I've ridden in the last 3 weeks is 90minutes twice each day so no way should I be trying to do 3+hours flat out. My concern being that my cardio vascular stress and racing for position will mask any symptoms and I'll crook myself for a long time.

I could do with some decent high intensity riding and racing but probably not at 100%. Suppose I could try to pretend it's a 12hr race.

Anyone raced with a self imposed limit etc?

FWIW I've been told to stop in road races, once your job is done, go home. (Or roll on to the finish)

I find it hard to hold back on a commute to be honest. You'll be proper annoyed at yourself if you make it worse. Maybe pick a back marker and stick with them?

i'd just go for a ride, it's too easy to get carried away in a race situation

Depends if you can put up with not racing at 100%. In this case - it's on a closed course on private land that you can't ride at any other time, likely to be quite a fun course too (Gorricks usually are), weather likely to be good - if you can treat it as a ride where you can push as hard as you like but without any real expectations, there's a lot of good reasons why you might 'risk' it.

Personally I couldn't enter an event I knew I had to hold back on - I'd get carried away and go harder than I should.

Also, why place badly in a race and have to keep justifying to yourself and others that you could have done better if on better form...

What are your plans for the rest of the year?

If you have some, don't, you aren't in a position to win the series tomorrow, so you've not much to gain. Doing what you are proposing (albeit with chest infections) cost me 6-8 weeks winter training last year, I've learned my lesson.

If you can allow yourself to bimble and you've already paid, do that and treat it as a "slightly above" social pace for CV, but avoid the red mist at all costs.

If there was no race, would you be heading out for a 3 HR ride?

Should be racing in 15 minutes. Chest infection over the past two weeks says no. I may bimble across on the trike to see the end. you have to recover to make progress. Al sums it up nicely.

Anyone raced with a self imposed limit

These are incompatible criteria. If it has a limit it's a training ride. However, considering the conditions tomorrow you could treat it as a skills training ride.

Well I'm in fur tomorrow and feel rather fragile... Another cold/flu thing has had me off bike for 10 days..
Trouble is,I shouldn't race, but want to keep up series points...

Meh, you only live once. And tomorrow might put an end to that...!

I'd not mess about with tendinitis. Rest till it's probably better.

I can't race at less than my max, and historically have hindered my recovery previously by pushing to hard before I was fit to. I'd go do a ride that may aid your recovery and get your system going a bit, racing but 'not' racing, is shite anyway.

For me tomorrow it's also a less than 100%100 racing due to 2 colds/flu things in the last month. I'll listen to my body and I'll adjust the pace accordingly.
If I wasn't defending points I wouldn't race.

Treat it as a short ride and after 2 hours decide whether to carry on.

Meh... Tired of feeling ill and worn out, so going to give it a miss to allow myself a chance to recover...
Opens up the SS podium for those less gammy than myself...

Good luck chaps

Bike prepped, tyres swapped, bottles ready....starting to think things like 'if I do a hard out lap'and realise I have zero chance of not getting red mist so staying home.
