I seem to remember seeing some that were designed with an extra pivot? At the thin point where the shimano ones break.
Can’t find them on a quick search. Are/were they any good?

Flo Motorsport and Oak are the only ones I know of. Both megabucks though.

Gravity components do some 3d printed Ti ones.

they’re priced as you’d expect…

Not sure if they are XT or another model, but you can get replacement levers for just over a tenner on aliexpress

Are they designed to breakaway to save the mc . I've lost count of how many broken Shimano levers I've seen, they do have a fragile look about them.

I have the Oak levers on my Magura MT7s. Brilliant upgrade, absolutely not worth the price! Mate of mine seems to break MT7 levers for fun, the Oak ones are really well designed and being metal - I assume - are more robust. They also just feel really fantastic compared to the stock levels - might be the extra spring they come with.

So yeah, really nice but defo not worth the cash. Zerobikes up the road from me sell them and I was in there one day and saw them on a demo bike...

I'm 100% certain I'm jinxing myself now, but I've not seen a broken Shimano lever blade ever with anyone I've ridden with. Run mainly Shimano brakes myself for 20+ years. Must just be lucky.

Used to get the levers bent up or down after a crash, but never broken off.

It's Magura that are notorious for snapping off, surely?

Sounds like they are being clamped to the bars too much so they don't rotate on the bar in a crash?

I had a badly bent M8000 lever blade 18 months ago after hitting the deck hard on ice, but I just bent it back with molgrips. I think the piston guides cracking following a fall is more of an issue for me, in that it's harder to source replacement parts.

I've bent shimano levers down (big OTB crash in the peaks) I just rotated the lever on the bars until the bit my finger contacted was in the right spot.

I have also bent one inwards on a relatovely innocuous crash.

My levers are tightened to spec or even a touch less so defo not over tight.

I've never broken a blade after years of running Shimano, and crashing a fair bit....

Until M8100.  3 week old bike toppled over and the end of the lever hit the ground and it snapped off with a ping!  Since then I've broken another.  I think it's something in the M8100 design that makes them thinner/weaker at the crimped section.

FYI, they are sold as "handed" but that's just the spring.  The levers are symmetrical, so if you have the spring, buy whichever is cheapest.

They are also a real pain to reinstall and line everything up!

I broke the bar mount once on an SLX lever after a tree blocked my alternate line choice 😉 Havinf said that, a mate and his lad break Magura levers for fun, so they've switched to something else.

Also another mate swapped a XT lever with very basic tools while we were riding in Spain, and the bladder seal was leaking. Guide lent us a spare lever body (as he'd snapped the lever off that!) and with a bit of YT and a beer, he got it done.

It does seem tho that linking up spring, pin, etc could go badly wrong at any moment!

Oh and last nights ride was on the bike with the Oak levers, having ridden the previous few on a standard shimano setup. They definitely feel better - certainly for modulation and I prefer the profile of the lever.
