So as of now it is still on, according to UCI. Would I be silly booking to go then?

Sorry I'm a little insulated/isolated here in the middle of nowhere in Sweden. I wouldn't say it was business as usual but it isn't far off.

It’s not until mid September isn’t it?

(I think it’s a World Cup not World Champs).

Anyway, with France and U.K. both likely at their peak now in April I’d bet it’s more likely to be on than off tbh.

For reference Passportes was due to go ahead end of June, they’ve postponed it until end of August, given it’s probably the same people who are organising the venue side of the WC are also organising Passportes they must at least think there’s decent chance of it going ahead.

I think you are being widely over optimistic there.

The UK’s first peak is expected to be April, there will be more peaks to follow.

Maybe, maybe not, I always try to stay optimistic.

The offical estimate has us peaked for new cases (which we might have) and peak deaths being around now or next week. Dropping to no new cases or deaths by mid-May.

Of course that doesn’t mean all social distancing will end or even borders will open and things will be normal enough for international travel, but I think it’s likely.

Yes there are lots of ‘leaked’ reports and conjecture in the press and Social Media is utterly awash with bullshit. But I don’t think multiple peaks is factual at the moment.

Yeah, Macron is talking about lifting some lock-down measures in a few weeks, with 'normality' mid-July. All subject to change of course and lifting of international travel.

I suppose the bigger issue may be that you're in Sweden, you've taken a very different path to the rest of the world.

Oh and I suppose there's the whole barrier of flying via Geneva if that's the plan - if France is open and Switzerland closed it's possible to fly in and leave via france, but I'm not sure how they work out the logistics of getting all the flights through the smaller french side of the airport.

I think that last sentence is a bit optimistic! This will be around in some form for at least 18 months.

I'm hoping some semblance of normality by Sep or October though

I'm booked with mtbbeds for August and they're hopeful Morzine will be open for the summer.

They currently have a deal going on their website with a guaranteed refund if the season doesn't go ahead, so it's worth the gamble. EasyJet also have a 0.99p luggage deal (incl bikes) till Friday as well

The how to get from Geneva to the PdS is a non issue if half the world can't get in, even assuming that the Swiss may align with EU/Schengen countries access-wise. I'm not sure that mass scale air travel is going to be much of a thing for the foreseeable future.

I wouldn't be making plans for it TBH. Mass gatherings like these sorts of events are going to be some of the last to get OK'd (if at all). That's probably true of all sporting events with large crowds

Hoping things are back to a semblance of normality by then. From a selfish perspective, we are racing the Trophy of Nations in Finale Ligure at the end of September, which would be nice to go to 🙂

Vallnord world cup has just been cancelled so that's 5/8.

Yes i saw that. June though.

some of the rounds are postponed as opposed to cancelled are they not?

I know sport is meaningless in the current situation, just nice to have something to look forward to!

I'm just quoting the official Gov. estimates.

Truthfully whilst I'm an optimistic person, the press are really pushing the negatives.

Just now I'm reading the horror headline that the UK economy could shrink by 35% a "tax watchdog says". Well yes, we've just closed every factory, office and 90% of retailers down in the UK. GDP is a poor measure of the health of an economy if you've turned it off on purpose.

I truthfully can't see any large open air gatherings taking place this summer in France before the schools go back in September after watching Macron live last night. As I understand it, they will be reassessing the situation on a weekly basis and even then it'll be very gradual and not a sudden return to 'normal life'.

If it goes on, it'll be without the public.

For selfish reasons the not knowing if it's going to happen is very annoying. As the money I've got saved for the trip could be spent elsewhere, esp now I'm furloughed for God knows how long

Mtbbeds have pretty much said they'll make a decision as late as possible and my dates will just be moved to next year

Some experts reported today as suggesting that social distancing may be required intermittently until 2022...
Everything might be open again by the summer, but it feels like a big gamble to bet on that at the moment.
