Thought i'd knock up a thread as i know some of us are going over to the Worlds in Les Gets for some fun and spectating.

We're only heading over for a few days due to annual leave etc...25th to 29th.

If anyone fancies a pint, chat, walk up the hill... Myself and the wife will be without the small ones on the SUnday as hopefully if the lads arm allows it, he'll be riding the trails.. (well, i assume the usual Red at Les Gets will be open to ride ? Or will they need to shoot down to Morz for some fun potentially ? We'll likely be watching the DH on the FRi morning and then also afternoon... then DH race on Sat...

We're staying just outside town, closer to Les Perrières than Les Gets town... but i've only stopped in Les Gets for the odd beer and lunch before, so don't know where we'll head to eat and drink, so any suggestions for a good bar to sit at and meet a few STWers, then lets hear it.

Abigale sets of this weekend on her tour, think she's starting in Vebier . I'm sure it will involve at some point watching the Worlds

Not only has she convinced her dad to let her take the Tourneo Custom instead of her Connect but was in the garage last night swapping out her 36s for his 38s on the Enduro

Not sure how much riding she will do as she's still waiting for another operation on her leg. She has now given up any hope of competing this year

If she fancies a few laps with the crazy teens I'm sure we could arrange something for the Sunday. Or as I say, if she just wants some bike friends to shoot the banter with, we'd be more than up for chatting

Beer sounds very tempting, will probably watch the DH on Saturday, but depends on riding mood at that point. Last day of holiday so will probably be worn out so up for spectating!

Sorry to hear that.

Eldest_oab will be in town, as it is the day after Trans Savoie, but I think he plans on riding not watching, although he is likely out for beers...

@Tracey Never good to hear about a potential upcoming op, but this...

Not only has she convinced her dad to let her take the Tourneo Custom instead of her Connect but was in the garage last night swapping out her 36s for his 38s on the Enduro

... made me laugh! Good skills Abigale!

Was in Les Gets today, from the signs I saw I think they are only closing the DH on the Mont Chery side. Therefore, I suspect the reds on the bike park from Chavannes/Nauchets lifts will still be open.

Thought I saw they were closing the Chavannes as well for the 4 cross competition. Could have misread the sign as I only glanced at it.

COTIC will be near the bottom of the Chavannes lift. Pop in and say Hi.

Quite possibly. I can’t say I was paying enough attention so there may well have been signage there that I didn’t see.

Does anyone know locations of tracks ? In comparison to the usual sweepy red down to the lift for example.

I'm asking for 2 reasons, on Fri there's DH practice/Qually, which is followed by XCC races.. Can you walk from one to the other in time to get to watch the end of Qually and the XCC races..

part 2 is, for Sunday there's the XCM racing on... how does that affect the lifts in Les Gets for non-competitors, e.g if fit enough, would my lad and his mate be able to go up and down a few runs.

The DH track is on Mt Chery, it's a ~10 min walk from the bottom back across to the Chavannes lift, which is where the XC track is. I think it's just DH practice on the Friday, no qualifying for World Champs. Mt Chery is closed to bikes all week, but pedestrians can get the telecabine up to halfway and then a chairlift up to near the top of the DH. There are normally pretty big queues for the telecabine with all the spectators and competitors also trying to get back up the hill.

The main Chavannes lift will be open, and the DH trails there will be open on the Sunday, but with a diversion at the bottom of the Chavannes trails (probably around the little lake/school area, or maybe just down the road) because the XC track comes up the bottom of the green DH and through the 4X area at the bottom of the red DH.

Just arrived in Les Gets. It was peeing down but seems to be clearing up. Unfortunately I ran the fuel down to 30km left in the tank and whizzing around the bends up from Tanninges to Les Gets set off an engine warning light. I suspect dirty fuel. I'll top it up in the morning and get the local garage to look at it. Bother!

I feel your pain mate. the Vito of lovliness wouldn't start the other day and after diagnostics yesterday from a Merc specialist has 2 failed components on the electrics that are causing a battery drain, neither of which are terribly expensive to buy, but both need re-coding to the van and a fair bit of labour to sort. Van is going back to dealer today.... I'm honestly not sure if i'll see it again. Wouldn't shock me if they give me my money back and then re-advertise at £1000 more to recoup the losses. I hope i'm wrong.

Either way, i don't see us being in the van for Les Gets.... but we do have the wifes 2018 Focus to fall back on as a plan.

Feedback from Abigale is the trails are running well. She finally arrived in Morzine on Sunday after spending time riding in Verbier and Samoens

Have you got the van sorted

Van dead and gone. Bought a Kuga, but the boy is still under doctors orders and on a bike ban.

Met up with Ambrose and his lovely wife tonight. Epic burger, beer and watching crazy BMX idiots lol.

My lad and his mate saw several pros then we spent 20 mins talking to the Swiss DH guys and Gamux who'd build a stunning machine!

Too many beers and some wickedly strong ones at home before bed. But I'm alive and have coffee and croissant!

Got to the lift, through the gate...
Lift immediately closed due to the weather. We hung around a bit, trying to be optimistic but no, it stays shut. Bugger.

Rode up to Chavannes and then took some very slippy trails down.

Currently at the patisserie as the French national anthem plays for the winner of one of the XC comps.
