Usually go to Les Arcs for the annual bike trip but this summer we're trying Morzine/Les Gets (seeing as 2 main lifts look like they'll be out of action). Been told that Les Gets is quieter so looking for a catered chalet for 6-7 people there - can't seem to find any? Does anyone have any recommendations?
Thanks!
We always stayed with Riders Refuge. We've been there 6 or 7 times pre-Covid. They have a couple of Chalets outside of Morzine so it's much quieter than staying in the centre.
The advantage of staying in Morzine is that you can almost always roll home. If you're staying in Les Gets and you get stuck somewhere with a mechanical or the lifts go off (thunder/wind etc.) you've got an absolutely monstrous climb to get back up there. Morzine is much more central in the lift network and downhill from most of the riding zones.
I've never tackled the climb up to Les Gets myself but you always see a sorry bunch pushing their bikes up the Route Des Grandes Alpes because something has gone wrong. Usually when we're bombing down in the opposite direction.
Thanks sharkattack - that's useful info 👍🏻
No probs. You're right that Les Gets is generally quiter but that's because there's much less there. There's much more choice for an evening out in Morzine and there's plenty of accommodation way outside earshot of the nightclubs.
We like RR's chalet Carclion. Nice easy ride into town and far enough away to be silent on a night.
Yep +1 for stay in Morzine - it's a nice chilled atmosphere rather than being rammed. Plus as mentioned above you're more central so it brings the Chatel and Les Crosets areas into play without it being a huge schlep home and the above mentioned weather/lift-closing risks. There's a fair bit around Les Gets but both those areas I mention are are worth exploring.
I've stayed with riders refuge- amazing food!
I stayed at chalet Nantagueue a couple of times. Food wasn't as good but it was much cheaper.
Take a massive lock and use it. Last time I went someone(s) nicked all the bikes in the chalet, except the ones with massive locks, locked to something secure.
Lots of other places had the same happen the year I was there
Riding is awesome
Good tip. Security is a must. One year there was an organised group of thieves taking bikes from absolutely everywhere. They were disappearing from hotel balconies and underground car parks and everything. It was a massacre.
People really let their guard down when they're on holiday. Make your bike hard to get.

What's the latest you've heard about lift availability for Les Arcs for summer 2023?
I contacted the tourist office in Bourg in early December. At the time they advised: "The funicular will be open this winter but may have to undergo further scheduled repairs in May. I cannot confirm it will be open this summer, our website will be updated with the latest info in March or April. The project to replace the Transarc will continue into 2024 however this will not affect the service over this summer (2023). The replacement of the Lonzagne lift (aka Lobster Pots) has ot yet been confirmed but, if approved would not be scheduled until 2024."
Thanks for the tips all.
a11y - hadn't realised they'd pushed the Transarc back to 24, but to be honest the Funi being out is a massive PITA. We usually stay over Villandry side so having to wait for the buses limits the amount of runs we can do down black 8, GG and Dre etc.. Suffered the buses the last 2 years, fancy something different..
We’ve stayed with Simply Morzinea few times now - they have a couple of chalets in Les Gets but I’m not sure if they provide catered in the summer (they do in summer)
