Really enjoyed the footage of the XC and particularly the drone chasing the riders down the singletrack. Just wondered how it worked. Either a Really skilful operator or is the drone linked to the riders timing chip or something?

I think it’ll be a skilled pilot. Not sure the follow algorithms are that good yet.

Agreed it was good.

They had it on the Red Bull DH earlier this year too. Maybe a small concern on the of occasion where the drone reportedly overtook the rider. I'd imagine that would be a bit off-putting.

There was a video on how they got drone footage of the whole route of one of the urban downhills in Columbia on YouTube.

Pre-programmed flight path? With faster/slower control by the operator?

You can click on a person/bike/whatever on the screen and it will follow on some drones. Even circling them or whatever while it does so. Drones are pretty clever nowdays.

It'll be flown by an operator. They've been making amazing use of this in the Natural Selection snowboard contests for a couple of years.
