Hello, a bit of a long shot but does anyone based in London or Surrey UK have a DT Swiss compatible ratchet removal tool that they might be able to lend me please? Long story but I have some old wheels and have discovered why the bearings are rumbling. Problem is that I need to remove the ratchet ring to access the offending bearing. As the tool is £60 I thought I'd see if a STW member might have a unit. Thank you in advance for any offers, would also appreciate any advice on how to complete the removal as I understand it can be tricky and I dint want to damage the hub ir spokes. Tim

With specialist tools I've found that you normally need to bite the bullet and buy one, or pay an LBS to do it.

Beyond Mountain Bikes in Cranleigh have one (I had to buy it because I broke their last one on a particularly stubborn wheel 😳 ) - unlikely to be free, but if you go in waving a stripped wheel it shouldn't take long/cost much.

+1 for getting someone who has the tool to do it for you. I have done a couple and if the hub has had a lot of use it is a real PITA and I have decided to go to my LBS next time. Not that they need doing all that often to be fair.

Heat gun FTW if it's stuck - that's how I released my one which broke the tool first time.
