You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Hi, I am going to Lemnos for a couple of weeks in early June. Should I take a mtb or road bike or even cobble together a gravel bike? Has anyone been? How is the cycling?
I can find little information on off road trails, either singletrack or gravel tracks. My mtb is a xc Turner Nitrous) with Mezczal tyres, and my road bike will only take 28mm.tyres
I've got vague memories of riding there. Off road can be a bit fruity with sharp stones, IIRC, so unless you are set on getting in a century on the road and lycraing it up, I'd take the Nitrous. There's usually lots of fireroad / bridleway type stuff to explore and wander round, although I'd also suggest taking one of those high frequency dog zappers for the inevitable farm dogs - they're often a lot noisier than bitey, but it can be a bit unsettling.
It looks quite small, a bit like Paros, if it is the mountains will be cross crossed with gravel tracks. I’d go MTB with cross type tyres. The roads will likely link the airport and go around the coast, and the drivers are not always expecting bikes. That said do a Strava search, and get a feel for what is being ridden.
Edit- just had a look at what a Nitrous is- take that with Race Kings or whatever quick tyres you got in case you do a bit of road to string a ride together.
It will be amazing.
We used to go there with Neilson. There's a lot of goat tracks in the interior, fairly loose and rocky with plenty of thorn bushes so take that into account when choosing tyres. It's not easy to link stuff up though so you'll end up doing quite a bit of road as well.
There will be routes on Strava as Neilson used to display them. There's also a Mark Warner there so they've probably got some recent routes on Strava.
As said look out for the dogs, one bloke got bitten on a Neilson ride!
