Took a very wet trip up to leigh woods on sunday to have a look what unofficial trails are around and how its looking, seems like they have felled loads of trees up there and it looks quite promising to put some nice trails in!
Do any guys do dig days up there or know how it works seems to have some decent potential for somewhere on my doorstep, i would be keen to help anyone out that will be doing some digs let me know
The off piste stuff is unofficial and dog days would likely be frowned upon. Lots of the established off piste has either been mashed up or marked closed by the logging.
Apparently there’s going to be about a year of leaving it in a state like that, then they’re going to replant it with native species rather than what was there before. I suspect we can play a bit off piste until the new planting is done then it’ll be strictly out of bounds.
Edit - if you want to do some digging then Belmont Woods is just along the road and they’ll be digging most of the winter to prep for riding once it dries up late spring.
It's an SSSI and there is quite a bit of pressure on how it's used. Unofficially we were allowed one area that had a lot of really good trails in quite a small space. Was really good lockdown riding over the summer. Unfortunately a couple of months ago there was extensive logging and the area was closed off. Hopefully the trails will open again and haven't been too badly damaged. There may be some digging to get them back but I doubt it'll be an official dig day.
There are other areas with regular digging.
