any advice folks as to how to prevent these cramps just above the knee.they seem to have started since i went back to wearing my fox knee pads which i never really war tight after i damaged my knee last year . any suggestions as to which pads would be suitable to wear for mainly xc riding and places like dalby forest red route. cos by god when these cramps start and your leg is extended you don't half know about it . i do use zero cal tabs and consume bananas and all the things you'd expect but it seems the pads seem to trigger this problem all of a sudden . my last ride i removed the pads when i felt them starting and it seemed to ease it a bit on the last 6 mile or so .
I'd be surprised if the pads were actually causing the cramp directly - might they be making you pedal differently (say, knees further out to clear the toptube) ?
yeh never thought of that but they don't tend to let your legs breathe either , i've started to wear them on my exercise bike and treadmill . i do think they're a little on the bulky side so yes maybe it is the way i'm riding .
