I rode some of the old lefty’s and really liked them, the new ocho has been out 18 month so wondering thoughts on how they are and reliability
Thanks
Still rare as rocking horse poo
I wasn't impressed with the duration and then cost of servicing the Oliver fork on my Slate. Left it off after the service and sold it on eBay to someone in Italy for the price of a new Kinesis carbon fork, stem and pair of Hunt wheels. Don't miss it.
Not sure why the Ocho would be any better service duration and cost wise.
I’ve just sold my 2.0 and replaced it with some Sids. Ongoing maintenance and servicing is way too costly in comparison to normal forks.
I’ve got a 2.0 and really like it. As smooth as anything I’ve ridden for Xc.
ALways fancied an elo lefty
I have briefly read( car park) ridden a lefty carbon and it felt superb
Me thinks it’ll be one bendy wendy of a fork for light xc use only without a typical stw’er body on top 😇
No offence meant btw
Just that on top of extensive servicing and cost of specific servicing centres Like Noahs ark makes it inconceivable to my logic
But yes it looks THE DOGS in A way
I have a Lefty Ocho on my Scalpel. 350miles mainly on road and the seals blew. Replaced under warranty. I paid £87.50 service charge, to Sigma Sports in Kingston.£50 for handling the warranty, as I didn’t buy the bike from them and £37.50 labour... to box the fork and send it to Cannondale.
Reassembled the fork onto my bike only to find the lockout lever mech is aligned to the cable port. Sigma have washed their hands of the issue.
So LBS isn’t great but ultimately the Ocho is as fragile as bambi’s legs and the service infrastructure isn’t great so I’d avoid getting one. NB I had a lefty PBR 90 carbon on my hard tail. Amazing fork never gave me any problems.
Did the Pioneer last year, fair few new dales, apparently alot of the new lefties died by the end, I had an older scalpel, the old lefty held up well (had other mechanical issues though), mate had a new scalpel, the lefty died on the last day. Was three days of racing/riding in very wet conditions though.
Check out the XC race bike and DC reviews up on Pinkbike website last week - they ride both SE and race scalpel versions, the race had Ocho and they make the usual comments, but overall were impressed. They sure look right on the FSi/ Scalpel as a package, but more as something a bit different to the norm than any real tangible performance benefit over a Sid/Float. As a hybrid 1.0 owner I can confirm longevity and servicing cost is an issue to be very aware of- level 5 finickity.
I have and Fsi carbon hardtail with a ocho. had it for about 18 months - always liked the bonkers design. not had any problems and it is my go to bike. Did the mary townley route (again) this year on it - use the lock out more than any previous bike (not sure why) - just seems pretty good to me.
