I'd like to make a fork mount for a lefty for my car boot. A friend has a lefty and might need to put his bike in my car at some point this summer. Already made a few for 15mm bolt through forks.
Does anyone know the dimentions of the lefty axle once the wheel is off? I can't find anything online.
Not sure that's a good plan. Lefty's are great because you don't have to take the wheel off to change the tyre etc. If you do have to take the wheel off it's a complete PITA.
The brake caliper has to come off, then the hub comes off via a self extracting bolt.
Ok, maybe complete PITA is over egging it a bit. But it's not like doing up a maxle. And you'd need to build the self extracting bit into your addapter.
The bearings are 15mm and 25mm though if you want to persist. The angle of the taper shouldn't be important (just cut the tube to length once done) as it's the 15mm bearing that's held in place by the bolt. So what you need is a 25mm I.d. tube, with a 15mm i.dm 7mm long spacer glued in one end. Slide the fork into that and find a bolt and big washer to hold it on.
I have a spare lefty lower on my desk in the study at home, if you still need this in about 3 hours I'll attack it with the Vernier callipers.
