I'm having a go at wheel building for the first time and perhaps i'm being a bit slow but I don't get the left to right spoke tension bit. I understand that the driveside on the rear and the brakeside on the front will have more spoke tension than the other side but what percentage less?
Is it that you set the driveside to the tension recommended by the rim manufacture and the non-driveside will be what it is because it is set by the dish of the wheel and if you alter it, it will throw the dish out?
I've got a book on wheel building and i've read as much as I can find on the web but i'm struggling with this bit as all anybody says is that it is lower. Please help as i'm sure the answer is simple and i'm just being thick!
Basically, your second paragraph is spot on. Tightest side up the max for the rim and slacker side whatver is needed to get dish right. There isn't a percentage that can be given really.
Yes, tension DS then fine tune dishing
Thank you. It was the only bit I didn't understand and I got myself a bit confused there.
