Hi guys, the left shifter on my bike clicks three times instead of two. The shifter is an SLX 7000 and the front mech is a SLX 7020 (2x11). Can I get rid of the third unwanted click?

Thanks as always.

Yes, there's an adjuster underneath the shifter

Should be a switch on the shifter.

Thanks for your replies guys, but there isn't a converter switch on this mech. 😣

It can be used with 2 or 3 speed.

Would the limit screws need adjusting? 🤔

I've run three speed shifters on double chain sets, on the road mind, but always just had that 'dead shift' Doesn't cause any problems, try to make it the last down shift rather than the last up shift.

You seem to be right.  Shimano doc says :

SL-M7000/SL-M6000 is not equipped with a
mode converter (front double/front triple
conversion system).
For information on how to use the shifting
lever, refer to the dealer’s manual for the
front derailleur.

just screw in the limit adjuster on the front mech, so it wont physically move to where the biggest ring would have been. Pretty certain that is what i did when i ran 2x on a 3x setup.....

As above, just make sure the limit screws on the derailler prevent it going past the small ring and large ring (which you should do anyway), then just use two of the clicks on the shifter to move between those two rings.

Thanks guys! By getting the limit screw and cable tension right, will that eliminate the extra click? 🤔

Sort of.  If you try to push really hard once the cable has hit the limit, the lever may allow you through to the third click but you’ll be buying new mech and shifter afterwards.  Don’t try to force the lever and you’ll be fine

Cable pulls on true 2x mechs aren’t always exactly the same as on 3x so the limit screw approach is more successful when using all triple components than when mixing and matching. It’ll probably be close enough but if you do experience problems with front shift quality this is a good place to look and frequently overlooked.

I'm maybe missing something here, but aren't there only 2 clicks on a 3 speed shifter anyway, 1->2 then 2->3? If you use it with a double chainset you only use one of the clicks. Or do you just mean 3 positions rather than actual clicks?

Maybe it's a trim click like on the road shifters? Otherwise, as above, there should be only 1 click for 2x and 2 for 3x.
