I've just gone 1x10 and am trying my left shifter as my fork lock out, any one lest doing this?
How are you finding it, better than the proper lever, tidier?

I used a left hand gripshift for a while as a lockout. Worked well. Just make sure you set it up so that the cable pulled "fully tight" is close to the stop on the lockout. If you crank down tight on it I think you could damage the damper with the force (didn't find out if this was true thankfully!).

I used an xtr front shifter as a replacement for a Rockshock Poplock on my SID for a 12hr race. It was absolutely, darn, perfect (spent a bit of time fettling the amount it pulled prior to using it). Ergonomically it 'fell to the thumb' so much better than the poplock and was much more reliable.

Over the 12hrs I found I could keep the fork locked out for 99% of the time and trust the shifter enough to disengage the lockout seconds before hitting something a touch nasty.

Due to this I realised that suspension was not a necessity for wooded xc racing and subsequently bought a rigid fork and have raced on that since, so sadly the xtr lockout only got one day (and night) to shine. But shine brightly it did.

Good point about over tightening.
It feels good so far.
Just wanted some reassurance I was not being a complete numpty for trying it.
