Anyone know what it's like currently, as I'm due to go on Sunday? Is it under a foot of snow?
Thanks

Under a good few inches of snow yesterday evening. I'll try and update when I get home (live at the same height across the valley). My guess is most will have gone by Sunday as it was fairly slushy and above freezing this morning.

We've snow covering everything above a certain height at the moment Dave. However, the forecast is its going to bucket down tomorrow, rain and sleet. The snow's fairly slushy anyway, so if that lot freezes it'll be lethal! I was out that neck of the woods last weekend and it was petty bloody sketchy then.

Theres always the Rivington Pootle if you're over this way

Mmmmm, any further updates welcomed through tomorrow. Sunday weather looks cloudy and milder, so tomorrow could be the deciding element.

Thanks so far everyone.

Cragg Quarry was a deathtrap at lunchtime today - frozen slush which had zero grip. I had to bail onto the track and leave the swoopy bits alone.

If it thaws it'll be fine, but it's turned cold again.

I'm just down the road, so I'll post up conditions tomorrow evening. As ScottChegg says, its the ice that's the problem. It was pretty bloody hairy up there last weekend. I had some very sideways moments. So after this week....

Not that Rivi will be any better! EEK! 😯

EDIT: you should see the colour of the sky over here at the moment. It looks like the end of the world!! Double EEK! 😯 😯

Binners, can you keep me updated on the weather over there please?
I have to get over the Pennines on my commute back to Rammy.

I will indeed. I'm in Oldham at the moment. I'm heading back to Rammy at 5. It looks very threatening up there at the moment, particularly looking over towards Saddleworth, but its not snowing as yet

Right, I'm home having passed Futures Park on the way. There's around 2 to 3 inches of slushy snow on the ground and Lee Quarry is north facing. Temperatures are predicted to rise to around 6 degrees and it's supposed to rain on Saturday evening but I reckon there will still be some slush around on Sunday.

Last night was nuts, took my wife 4 hours to get from Burnley to Bacup, normally takes 15mins. Combination of idiot drivers (if you've got a rear wheel drive BMW with wide tyres on it avoid snow covered roads) and idiot council, if there's several incahes of wet snow on the road spreading salt doesn't do much apart from get washed away, it needs a snow plough on it first and then gritting. Exactly the same thing happened to the day last year. 4 x 4 is no use when everyone else is blocking the road [/rant]

Update: it's looking good! A lot of the snow has gone. It's hovering around freezing so there's going to be ice around. We've got rain forecast for later, but its clear skies and sunshine at the moment. A perfect day for it!

Going to have a run out myself this afternoon, so I'll report back on how sketchy it is out there, but if its owt like this morning, your laughing!

I'm going to have a pootle up to peel tower, through woods, up to cragg and back, shouldn't be that bad.

Still quite a lot of slush and ice about above 1000ft but it is raining and above freezing. There will be ice but I reckon most of the snow will be gone. Could be interesting though if theres water over the ice. Will update again in the morning if I get a chance.

Jon,
Just wanted to say thanks for the updates. We got up there for 11 today and had a really good few hours. Bit blowy, but otherwise conditions were just as you said.
Thanks again.
Dave
