You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
We've damaged the passenger door mirror by accidentally rolling back and clonking it on a wall. Still works, has crushed the edge of the indicator 'glass' and dented the black surround a bit.
Would we get stung for that sort of damage handing it back? Or is it worth spending £110 on a used part?
Or is it worth spending £110 on a used part?
For £110, assuming you're then not going to get stiffed for ££££ fitting I wouldn't even wait to find out.
I know folks who've got away with actual holes in the body work and some that have been billed for anything not pristine.
How long before the lease ends? When I was overseeing car leases at work we initially repaired such items til one time we fixed one car's damage then it was involved in an accident which meant repairing the area that had previously been sorted.
I'd be fixing that myself.
Too much risk of a leasing company big bill.
You will get charged for it,
But depends on serveity of it.
How long before the lease ends?
It's already ended, we went for an extension but it turns out it's a rolling extension so we can cancel with 5 days' notice.
Ordered the thing anyway. It has a scuffed up white cover, but our cover is pristine it's the other parts that are damaged.
IME it all depends on which lease company you’re with.
if it’s VWFS then 100% get it fixed yourself!
That would probably be chargeable, but if the damage isn't bothering you, I'd probably leave fixing it until hand back time.
For reference, you want to try and find a copy of the BVRLA Fair Wear and Tear guide, as any respectable leasing company in the UK should be adhering to their or similar standards.
It's surprising what is actually acceptable as fair wear and tear.
IME of lease companies they will try to screw you for what ever they can get away with.
My lease went back last week. I was panicking about any damage and getting charged so I spent a day or two before it got collected polishing, waxing and cleaning the car. Bloke who picked it up didn't mention anything and said it was straight off for auction. Got an email from the lease company a few days later saying nothing more was owed. That was Zenith.
From memory the issues I knew about were a damaged skid plate, paint missing from front bumper after scuffing a bollard, decent scratch/scuff down the drivers side (kids bike) that polished out but soon showed back up, flat paint in patches that I suspect was due to kids and suncream and a chunk of plastic taken off the rear passenger trim.
I'd imagine any obvious damage would be picked up though.
Obvious damage get it fixed
Don’t get it done too soon though , I have a ‘friend’ that spent £200 on sorting scrapes on a lease car 2 months before handing it back only then to be a right idiot and write the car off 4 weeks before it was due to be handed back 🤷♂️
