Morning all
Rear brake on my hardtail (M6120 caliper) started honking badly and was unable to lock up when the bike was not used overnight. Tried cleaning and replacing pads, cleaning rotor, cleaning caliper which would work initially but the problem would just come back the next day. Ordered a replacement caliper and when I came to fit could see the old caliper was leaking out of one of the small pistons. Caliper swapped with an MT520, brake bedded in well and will be tested on Thursday on my next day off.
Has anyone found a way to fix this problem since the last time I checked? I note that you can buy ceramic pistons off Ebay but to be honest they're almost as much as a Deore caliper which I use on all of my and my girlfriends non flatmount bikes now. Or are they still for the bin when this happens? Would be nice to keep as a spare if fixable as I imagine one of the 8 4pot calipers we have will start leaking at some point.
TIA
I’ve had a few Shimano callipers micro leaking - I’ve just ditched them and replaced with other brands (Sram Codes and Hope RX4) as I like my brakes to be able to hold all their fluid inside rather then outside the caliper.
I think there are a few leak problems from what I’ve read - could be the seal round the piston or I think there’s a no ring style seal between the 2 caliper halves that can fail too. Shimano don’t sell either as a spare but there was a previous thread on here somewhere that someone had found a suitable after market seal for - at least the o ring one.
