Local group wants to set up a lead gravel ride. But no one seems to know what tickets would cover it.
Local club think ride leaders but to me that ok for road and cycle paths but as soon as you hit gravel with potential obstacles there's an issue.
I have MB level2 which seems overkill but possibly within remit.

Any thoughts? (Preferably on topic)

I think you’re on the right lines. Level 2 or TCL in old money. ‘Gravel’ is quite a broad church and means different things to different people. Best err on the side of caution, I’d say.

Our club has cx rides organised through the club and there’s no need for any qualifications, just like road runs. Not sure why barriers are necessary for cx / gravel unless you’re going to hit mtb reds and blacks in which case it won’t make much difference anyway.I’ve led quite a few runs and not got a qualification and there’s been no issue.

Is it not just a beginners MTB ride?..

Gravellers I see on local trails seem to be walking lots on terrain you're concerned about, So should be fine 😋

The question, I suppose, comes down to if there were to be an accident and someone got hurt and they paid a nominal fee. Or it was put on as an intro and the guide/leader misjudged the difficulty.
This group wouldn't be club members or even known to the leader

That's what we do - BC club (have I mentioned we are Cycling Weekly Club of the Year recently?) and very few of us actually have any ride leader qualifications. We would like to change that, but not aware there's any requirement from BC.

Probably the only ride leaders who actually have qualifications are the ones who lead the local Cycle for Health rides for the council, as the council needed it for their liability cover.
