Some fun on the finish yesterday, and a few spills on the road.

Definitely a bit of good day bad day out there where Plan A for the GC boys was to finish on time and in the pack.

Oops

and a very sweet victory

"What did Daddy win you?" asked Mark Cavendish.

"Flowers," said Delilah Grace Cavendish.

The finish should probably keep the sprinters quiet so either a bit of a break away or maybe somebody could be keen to nick a bit of time from the other GC contenders.
Bit too early to say 🙂 Enjoy

Realmike! Well done. No Sagan-themed homoeroticism though?

Thanks Mike!

Looking forward to watching this - should be a good final 20km. Bit early for the big contenders to try anything I suppose, unless one of them goes for it and the others have to respond. Not sure who the last km suits, or who's going well, actually I'm not even sure who's riding this early in the race: only just noticed that Kwiatkowski isn't there!
[img] [/img]

Also looking forward to seeing how much yellow Cav will be sporting: Full custard, just the jersey and bike or something in between?

Edit: For anyone who hasn't seen them, the stage previews at inrng.com are always excellent http://inrng.com/2016/07/tour-de-france-stage-2-preview-cherbourg/

Bit of a long shot, but does anyone know a good cafe/bar likely to be showing the tour in Edinburgh? I have an afternoon to kill.

Ronde, Hamilton Place, Stockbridge would be your best bet

No serious climbs by the looks of it.
Looks like a stage for Sagan or EBH

Still think somebody might try something at the end, especially if Contador is looking tender. All it would take is for an outside GC chance rider to be in the right place.

Looking at that finish, Sagan is probably a good bet.

I'm on somebody like Sagan or Van Avermaet but I think sky and/or movistar will attack the climb hard, just to see how bertie is - if he falters it could be a 3km sprint finish

@slow its the app you download not a website

Try this (maybe the French strore but you'll get the idea) https://appsto.re/gb/SF6cG.i

Also if you had the app last year it should be in "purchased" I had deleted mine but it remembered I had downloaded it before

I think it was 1 minute up on the yellow jersey who was at the back of the peloton

Great for Sagan, crap day for Porte - such a shame on a stage like that but it's only stage 2, TJ always blows up later and if that's your bit of bad luck done then it's onwards and upwards

Porte's GC hopes dead

Seems that way. Froome looked strong to me.

They seem to be speaking about Sagan's bike being checked, assume its just a formaility

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Shame for Stuyven but still a great finish.

it was an odd finish, Sagan was a sitting duck out front but the lad went too early you can see why he was upset with himself!

Sagan's just been saying that he thought it way the sprint for third place so he waited for someone else to go!

Out in Japan, so dint see it. What caused the big time splits on a straightforward day?

Contador went down again and wasn't looking comfortable, Porte had a puncture at 5km out and had to wait for neutral service

Tough 3km climb at the end. Contador crashed early on, couldn't stay with the main group on the climb, Porte punctured a few km (4?) out and didn't get back on.

Froome, Quintana, Aru, Rolland, Van Garderen all still on the same time. Nibali and Pinot lost a bit.

Ok, so Porte, Contador struggling already, and if Nibali/Pinot can't keep up on that finish they look in trouble too. Surprised Cav so far back - was he caught the wrong side of a crash?

No Cav just struggled on the rolling finish, 14% at one point and they weren't hanging around, the last guy in the break was caught with 500ish metres to go so the last 10km were very quick

Cav and his team where riding decently, front of the peloton for a long while. As above he onlynreally dropped back on the climb to the finish when they cranked it up to catch the breakaway. The early part of the race 90 mins (?) was in pretty dire weather, a few crashes.

They were still catching a break at the very last minute, so fast finish. Hence Porte, Cav, etc were completely screwed. Decent amount of climbing on it.

Prudomme plays another blinder to design a course to get Sagan in yellow. And the nice sideline that Cav also gets his long deserved yellow jersey too.

Porte and Bertie are finished. That wheel change was a shocker. I always face backwards to change a back wheel so I can lever back the RD.
